A couple of questions about my 8

I'm a proud owner for 3 weeks now and I started to notice minor issues with the car. I'd like to know if these are normal.

- Shift **** vibrates at idle
- Pinging sound the firts time the car starts.
- An audible thump when I back up the car the first time in the morning.
- Grinding noise at idle. Noise goes away when the clutch is fully depressed.
- High pitch whistle at idle
- Ticking sound at idle
- Center console becomes hot after a while (shift lever area)
- Shifting doesnt feel that its properly engaging. It feels like I had to force it to get the gear in.
- Smell of burned clutch

I have a 6MT 05 touring. I bought the car brand new with 5 miles on it. It currently has 620 miles. Any input is appreciated. Thanks!

1. Normal if moderate. If extreme, could be motor mount failure, but not likely in new car.
2. ??? Can you elaborate? Does it happen as you activate the starter or after the engine is running?
3. Normal. ABS calibration.
4. Normal. Transmission main shaft rotating on it bearings. They all do it.
5. ??? Are you new to rotaries? Probably just the unique sound of the rotary engine.
6. Possibly the fuel pump doing it's thing.
7. Normal
8. It's a new car. It will loosen up a bit as it wears. Change gear oil to synthetic like Redline after a few thousand miles.
9. New car smell? Rotarys do smell what with the ultra-rich fuel/air mixture, but not like clutch burning. If it doesn't go away after awhile, see a dealer.

Welcome to the forum! Now before someone else says it--use the search funtion on the forum and do some reading. Most of these "issues", and many others, have been discussed ad nauseum. So any question you have about the car has likely been answered already.

I experience all of the above except the last two. The center console is a good place to keep your muffins or coffee warm.

Thanks all for the response. I take it that these issues are nothing but normal. This is my my first rotary car but not my first MT. I learned how to drive on an MT car.

Thank you and I do truly find this board very weathly of information (didnt sleep the other night reading through DIY threads). I do use the search button a lot specially when I was researching on the 8 back before I got one.
