well, in many places it requires deductible. In Vancouver, it's $300 cdn I believe. But if you look around, $400 can get you a brand new one without going through insurance.
If there's no crack but only a mark, it makes sense to fix it.
also, when you replace the whole windshield, you have to make sure they do a good job. It's never as good as the one from factory for local shop. I had a 1997 CRV before. Replaced the windshield because of cracks. It started to leak in some corner after 2~3 years after windshield was replaced.

You can only replace the WHOLE windshield, you can't replace just part of it. Also! I have been doing glass for 15 years. I've had leaks and knock on wood.......haven't had one leak in atleast 7 years. It happens sometimes, you never mean for it to happen. I've replace mine twice in the 8. No problems. Sometimes when you hire a mobile company, they hurry on their jobs. I manage a company that has been around since 1961. We do great work. A fair price is as I stated in a previous reply. The glass shop you choose is probably only paying $80-100 for the part. Mark-up, labor and tax= about $220 for a FAIR price. If I did shoddy work, I wouldn't get the type of cars I attached below.
I understand many auto glass are reputable and did a good job. But the one i went to has big name and they replaced it and had a leak. Small, but leaking slowly.
$220 is more than FAIR price. In fact, I think it's too low. :p you better charge a little more than that. Glass shops around my area charge arounc $500 for a windshield easily. :p
