crashed my 8, waiting on parts. pics

Had a head on collision with my 8. Hit a Golf, or he hit me. It's in the bodyshop now.

Question,
How long have you waited for parts? Bodyshop told me the parts were to arrive last Wednsday but I'm thinking they don't know when they'll come in. Has anyone waited very long for a part?

it depends. on a lot of things.

if you order a part from most mazda dealers, and mazdusa has it, its 2-4 days away. although this is subject to things like ups, or the sales dept parking cars in front of the parts door etc.

the way it usually works is the following, and it does vary. depending on who's involved, and how bad the cars damaged

1. you crash the car
2. estimate is made/car dropped off
3. parts ordered
4. nothing
5. nothing
6. parts show up, car is put into the que to be worked on
7. car is torn apart, and fixed, most of the time it needs more parts/work
8. more parts ordered
9. nothing
10. nothing
11. order #2 shows up
12. goes to paint
13. car is assembled
14. car is delivered, you made appt to bring it back to redo everything cause they screwed it up the 1st time...

so while mazda is a little slow, they arent really the big hold up.

Thanks for the info. Hope it's done soon. Can't fathom Christmas without her. For some ungodly reason I din't get rental insurance on my car so I'm driving my wife to work every morning and picking her up in the evenings. She doesn't mind as she's almost 8 months pregnant.

The isurance company hasn't received the accident report yet and therefore hasn't made any judgements. I told my insurance company that I needed my car fixed asap and they said go ahead pay the deductible and that I'd be reimbursed if the other driver is at fault. So far based on what they know both of us are partially to blame.

NEWS FLASH!!!!!!

Just heard from the body shop and was told car is going into paint today and should be ready tomorrow. Thank God! It's no fun trying to drive a 99 Galant like a 04 RX8 only to keep scaring the heck out of oneself when she almost loses it in the corners. Also, getting used to the extra braking distance is also a scare.

In the end they claimed they "lost money on the job" after my insurance company paid them over $10,000 and they failed to correctly install the passenger front airbag, failed to reinstall my front temp sensor properly and missed a cracked driver's side foglight lens. All that on top of charging me some miscellaneous $20 fees for swapping my snow tires on (by the time they'd had my car 6 weeks it needed the winter tires to get home) and wasting several of my vacation days and several $30-in-gas round trips that amounted to nothing.

Dude, if you really get your car back today it's a miracle.
Dude, I got my car back yesterday! It went in the shop Last Monday, right after Thanksgiving. All in all, not too bad. Oh and it looks great. Even better than it did. I had quite a few chips on the hood and I had a small fender bender over a year ago that cracked the front. I wasn't going to fix it as you couldn't see it unless you were on top of it. Now I have a new front end and hood.

They did tell me they had a rough time matching the color, but everyone agreed that it was a pretty blue. With the full detail (inside and out) the car looks brand new.

I've got nothing bad to say about Geico! They took care of me. The #2 adjuster in NJ had offices in the auto body shop that my car was in. They even offered to feed me while I was waiting. They really turned what would normally be a bad experience into a pleasant one.

Is is possible to get a quote from a auto repair place, have the insurance pay and instead have the shop order mazdaspeed or other body mods and pay the difference in cost? Anyone ever heard of someone doing this?

I thought about that just recently. With the body shop I used, any part had to be Mazda certified. They couldn't use aftermarket.

That's pretty impressive. I'm going to go out on a limb here, and guess that by "body shop" you mean independant body shop. I would guess that even the best dealerships would not have this quick a turn around. Glad to hear it worked out ok.

I believe that federal legislation was passed preventing insurance companies from pulling the 50/50 fault BS. Look into it - especially if they try to say both parties were equally at fault.

Good luck with the new baby. And the child on the way! lol.

In hindsight I wish I'd done a kit at the time of my crash, but I'd only had the car 5 WEEKS so I hadn't researched kits and didn't know what I'd like so I just let them restore the full OEM (with aero package).

You can't get the insurance company to pay for the full price of the aftermarket parts can you?

I've waited over 3 weeks for Mazda to get me 1 part, let alone all the parts that make up the front end. Woodbridge Auto body in Rahway NJ did excellent work.

Thanks for thinking of my babies.

Know what you mean about the difference in handling - this car ruins you for anything else - I had to rent a couple of sedans by different makers and felt like I was trying to steer pregnant whales - hated to get them into freeway situations or traffic - felt like I was trying to steer and slow start a load of bricks with no brakes. And once they have traveled in the 8, even passengers prefer it.

Saw a black 8 today on the Garden State Parkway. Looked like it rear-ended an suv. The front end looked pretty bad. Looked like the driver and passenger looked at me as I drove by. I felt bad.
I wonder if it's anyone on this forum?
