Is that a Crossfire?
That's what my tree pruning guy wanted to know, looking at my RX-8 crouched in the driveway. I took it as a compliment but had to set him straight. I kinda like the Crossfire Roadster, as a matter of fact. But it doesn't look anything like an RX-8.

I have to be honest, but I have mistaken a Mustang for an RX-8 a few times. I dont know, maybe its the bubbled fenders and tiny rear side window. I saw this avocado Mustang and I had to take a 2nd look coz I thought someone painted their RX-8 that color.
On a lighter note, someone called mine the Mini-Corvette once and two kids during my lunch hour crossed the street and said "Look! A spaceship car!" "Cool~~"
That made my day.
ps. I have called the Crossfire a "UFO" while driving on the freeway. So, if RX-8 is a spaceship and Crossfire is a UFO... why did the chicken cross the road?

The security guard at work asked me how my mustang was. It didn't rub me the wrong way but I sort of felt funny about it. I dig the new mustang 'look', but at the end of the day it's still a mustang.
I went to see them at the dealership when they came out in the fall, the salesguy told me that he'd give me an even trade on a GT for my 8GT. I thought about it for .0001 seconds and told him that he must be out of his mind. He said "it has a full back seat and I had my buddy who is 6 foot whatever sit in back" and I was thinking yeah and a little midget must have been driving him around then.
When I first got the 8 I went to see my friend who has a 2000 mustang; just looking at them parked side by side you can see where a lot of queues where borrowed. So they do look similar but it still strikes a chord if someone says it.

The other day when I was washing my car outside, these kids around 10 years old were walking up behind it trying to decide what type of car it was. Then one of em said, "It's a Mazda?! It's pretty nice for a Mazda." I wasn't sure if I should be excited or angry. :D

I think people just want to talk to us about the car and they throw out any "new" car they can think of to drum up conversation. It's ok by me that they dont know what kind of car I drive. I bought it to be unique anyway.
I am kinda puzzled when I say, "Its a Mazda RX-8" and they ask who makes it.

I saw the top gear episode when they tested the crossfire. He said that the arc of the roof to the back bumper reminded him of something..... a dog taking a crap. I took a good look at the crossfire, and said "Holy SH*T he's right!"
My 8 does not look like a dog taking a crap.

There's a used Crossfire coupe at the Dodge/Chrysler dealer nearby. Think I'll take a closer look and see if any animal metaphors come to mind.
