Cruise control disengages suddenly

I have been using my cruise control a lot lately as my work place changed I do a lot more motorway driving over the last two months.

I find it easier to hit the cruise control for such monotonous driving situations. The last two days I found that the cruise would automatically disengage.

It happens more towards the end of the 20km trip after the car has warmed up. I cleaned the ESS this morning and it did not make any difference.

My neutral switch has a leak and is due for replacement as it causes erratic idle sometimes. Can anyone think of a possible cause for this issue.

The problem has escalated and now the cruise control does not engage at all. So it is most likely a loose connection issue.

The green light comes on when I press the cruise button however, it does not engage and the light goes off when I lift my finger off the button.

My first through was the neutral switch, and you say it's causing other problems.. so perhaps that.
