Cruise Control on a Manual?

Hello RX-8 community,

I actually have two "odd" questions about the Cruise Control;

1) Does the manual have Cruise Control?

I own a 1987 RX-7 TurboII, and was suprised that it had Cruise Control, on a manual transmission (the only I have ever seen).

2) What is the highest speed that the cruise can be set at?

On my RX-7 its 95 M.P.H. (which is 150km I belive), and that seemed very high to me (I love it though).

I have driven mostly older american cars, so I havent had much of a chance to see what other foreign cars offer, but from what i've seen, manuals don't have cruise, and the cruise stops around 70 M.P.H.

So even if you have, seen, know off, or even heard of, other cars that have, cruise on a manual, or a high cruise set speed, post it too. I would think a 911, and other great GT cars would.

1. yup

2. dunno, highest I've set cruise at was 82 MPH, I don't think I'd want cruise set at speeds higher than that.

When some people first think of a manual tranny they think how can it possibly have cruise control. But think of how much gear shifting you'll be doing when going that one constant speed....

If you touch the brake or clutch, or are going up a hill that requires a lower gear, the cruise will shut off.

My 95 Z28 six-speed had cruise control. Funny thing about manuals in cruise control is that they'll really snap your head back if you 'resume' in a low gear. For instance, doing 80mph in cruise on the highway in sixth: sometimes for kicks I would push in the clutch (cancels cruise control) and throw it in third (which could bring me to about 95mph). After slowing to about 40mph, you could 'resume' in third and it would accelerate unnervingly quickly back to 80. Almost felt like you were riding shotgun!

Cruise works at 105mph far as i've used it on.

Soon as you push the clutch pedel in it turns off.

You need to get out more. Cruise is no problem with manual transmissions, they just use a clutch pedal swith to disengage the cruise, same as the brake pedal switch.

For manual trans cars WITH cruise, I've owned: '89 Taurus SHO, '96 Miata, '97 Ford Contour SE, '98 Subaru Legacy GT; '02 Audi allroad; and '04 RX-8. There's a zillion more available, but you get the point - manual with cruise is no big deal.

Regards,
Gordon

Some one told me the cruise controll in myu Ranger is good for 85 MPH to bad the poor old truck won't go that fast. I don't know who dreamed up the idea of putting a 3.0L car motor ina truck but they should be shot. That being said it gets beter mileage than an 8. Still want an 8 though. :D
