Eating in a car is for teenagers. When you get older, you find better planning skills, and better places to eat. You learn that McDonalds is not fine cuisine. It's kind of like sex. There's a line you cross at some point in your life when you realize that turning yourself into a pretzel in a car is no fun any more, and that you pay good money for a place to keep a bed, or that the great outdoors is more spacious. :D

The only reason I would ever have to have a beverage in a car would be on a road trip. I just am not so impatient that I must have one driving around town. I can wait until I reach home, or my destination. And if you can't bend down to reach the floor to pick it up, you probably shouldn't have a beverage in the first place, unless it's diet or water. :p

Honestly, mirrors that dim themselves, seatbelts that put themselves on, cup holders... God we are a lazy bunch, aren't we?

Well yeah I do get fast food, but I usually eat it there when I have to. Most of the time I find a Diner, something New Jersey is great for, and eat their. Their are enough morons on the road for me to worry about that I dont want to have to pay a dry cleaning bill on top of a medical bill or my deductable. But I do drink in my car, mostly water though, its better for you anyway, and doesnt make for sticky seats...thats what sex is for, i am just 19 you know :D

Now THAT is a statement. You have one post on a sports sedan forum, and it's in strong favor of a cup holder.

ROTARY LOGOS ARE COOL!

I really like the fact that mazda is loading the 8 up with rotary cues. Most non-rotar heads won't even notice while the fanatics should love it. More power to them. My only regret is that they did away with the push-button start. I had such great plans for that.

Made me laugh to see you write that you have great plans for the button. :D

Let me guess, starting the engine!
I'm sorry, just a little sarcasm, nothing personal.

You are probably being serious, did you want to re-map its function or something?

Thumbs up Cup Holders

If Mazda can design and build therotary and the new RX-8, they ought to be able to design and install cup holders that will accomodate North American tastes (read Vente-sized cup). They don't need to be unattractive and can maybe be a fold-down or fold-out design so that when not in use, they aren't visible.

I plan to use the car for my daily driver and as such, I need at least one decent cup holder.:D

Someone started this thread in January 2001. Most if not all of the original people probably were chasing dreams and never ended up getting an RX8.

Now that the RX8 is actually available, we know that it has 4 excellent cupholders. Or, it is what is called the 2+2 configuration (2 warmers, 2 regular).

Out of all the original posters, the one poster who was dissing fast food is probably the only one small enough to fit inside a production RX8 when it was finally released. The rest never made into the test drive.

WantedTwo, if you hate the cupholders that much, you'd have BIP it already.

Due to weight savings and the fine taste of these individuals as a whole, most real RX8 drivers do not go around from drive through to drive through slurping down 44 ounce sodas. Most do not even frequent drive throughs nor are they regulars at fast food restaurants.

I once had a job sitting in the drive through window, and served countless thousands of customers. I will remember two of them: an NBA basketball player, and the guy who was pinned in his seat by the steering wheel.

Can someone modify the front door panel storage pockets and integrate a cup holder into each one? That would be cool.

Hey, we may not frequent drive throughs, but we all get a Big Mac attack once in a while. I use the frount holders when I am needing quick acess to the drink. Otherwise I put it in the back ones to keep it out of my way so I can work the gears.

LOL! Me, too! I put my drinks there cause if I use the front ones, I've no place for my elbow. I also keep an airfreshener tin back there!

....aw, man, still chuckling to myself over that, I oughta go to bed.
So i'd buy a non spill coffee cup! At least I'd be able to reach my coffe and still be able to shift (but not at the same time). Given the room available I'd live with it.

Actually the second postion is not too bad for shifting gears.

But lot's of times I perfer to put it in the rear console like you.
