curious.......
mid pipes cause the check eng. lights go off right?, b/c of the O2 sensor .......eventho its connected on the pipe the check light is still lit. what whould happen if the O2 sensor isnt inserted at all? running the car w/o an O2 sensor mess up the performance in any way? xept for the bad gas mixture....

If your new mid-pipe doesn't have a cat you will get a CEL. If you don't plug it in you will get a CEL.
You could put a resistor inline with the sensor to fool the ECU into thinking it's still reading properly

Spikes.....
The computer has an upsteam O2 sensor which sends 'spikes' of signal according to how much oxygen is in the exhaust gases.
It then looks for a signal with less voltage spikes from the downstream sensor, indicating that some of that oxygen has been used up, in an afterburn on the catalyst.
No spikes, too many spikes, no sensor ohms or too high sensor ohms, (no sensor detected) will trigger the Check light. Not an easy signal to spoof......
