Talking Custom Paint

Well, I finally got my custom paint job done for my 8. See what you all think. I was really happy with the outcome and the car looks even better at night. There are a few more items to touch up now that the hard work is done, but here she is.

Mazdaspeed front bumper
Mazdaspeed rear under spoiler

I like it - looks pretty clean too. Nothing too over the top but still aggressive.

I would love details about your behind the plate hitch?

I think your body shop got confused though, you have and rX-8 not and R8 :D

I know your kinda going for an r8 look, but it doesn't work on the rx8. In my opinion it looks like ****, the black doors ruin it.

Not a superr fan, but hey unique for sure... and the r8 style with the back doors makes sense.

Good job!

It's not for everyone, as is true with any custom paint job, but I like it and it is unique. I was going for the R8 look a little bit, but more importantly I wanted something that follows normal body lines (and it's a hell of a lot cheaper to paint that way too ). The R8 just gave me some ideas. As long as there is no cheesy and cheap looking carbon fiber junk on the car, then I like most anything anyway.

When you add in the fact that my street bike and race bike are both silver and black too, then you see the theme a little more.

To each his own, but I thought I'd share. Even if people don't like the paint job, I've got to give huge props to the body shop as the finish came out really good and they took great care of the car.

If your interested in the behind the plate hitch (towing a motorcycle or tire trailer) and live in Houston, get with Steve at Best Collision Center. He's a great guy and really easy to work with. He's ready for anyone that wants the hitch installed and I believe he said he can do it for around 260.00.

Still thinking about that. The biggest pain in the butt has been around the black. In bright sunlight, you can see the different shades of black when you get close. (of course I may be the only that actually notices - lol). I'm talking about the black around the window edges where they are blacking out things around the edges of the glass and the black plastic from the mirrors (probably going to change that by sanding smooth and painting to same color). I don't have a solution for the black in the glass though, may just have to deal with it.

I'm also playing with some ideas with the painter about ghosting in something to the black doors and then ghosting the same to the hood. Just no good ideas yet. The black doors also give me a place to run the sponsor logos (motorcycle racing - that's why I have the hitch) down the side of the door and keep the white sticker on black background look.

I'm letting this work simmer for a little bit while I work on the LED light kit and the Car Computer. I must be getting bored

yea thats what my co-worker said. "is that guy going for the r8 look"? he isn't even a car guy

I don't think it looks bad. I don't dig it..but if I saw it in person I'm sure I'd compliment it.

Not my choice of lines to follow but, I do like it. I'll be getting some paint work hopefully soon. I have to wait for the guy to finish a couple other projects first.

While we're giving opinions and I'm not naming names, can we have rules to not use myspace style attention ***** profile pics? It may work for some, others just fall flat.

IMO fail, but props for going a different route. If you like it though that's all that really matters.

I think you desperately need ms side skirts.

Once you get those I think the car will look more like a finished product, the low ms front to the high stock sides doesn't quite fit....
