Talking D R O O L

Ohhh sweet sound of rotary!

I felt the need to begin a new post and tell my story to those like me who lurked around for information that would help our car buying decisions.
Hubby and I went to get our 8s last night. We both got silver ones. He got the titanium and I liked the sunlight silver.
For the money, we couldn't have made a better decision. We got them loaded for less than $30k each!! How many cars can you do that with and get the same quality?!
We feel that any vehicle will have downsides (most disconcertning is the flooding). BUT compared to others in the same market (350z, S2000, etc) this vehicle is superior for what we were looking for.

If you want:
- Stoplight Racing.
- Cheap as possible for as many horses you can get.
- Bragging rights on who beat who on the popular strip in ricer town.
- No space just fast.... or you don't care about space, just care about how fast you can go.
- Treat it like your slave, and if it tears up, just replace it.

.... then this is NOT for you.

If you want:
- Sophisticated feel with light luxury.
- Fast Touring.
- Will put you in the seat for YOU, not for others!
- Just a little space.
- Something to care for and have it love you back.

.... then this car IS for you.

Of course I am only talking to like-minded, older people... not the very young generation that wants a phat ride and monster toque. I am talking to those of us who aren't sure what they want now that they have a career. When you read on here about all the problems and all the young'ens talk about how much better the EVO is (and if you are like me, I wasn't sure what they were talking about, so here is what I found out at the mitsubishi dealer last night: it is a Mitsu Lancer that is sported up and VERY fast, but VERY lacking on the comfort levels, and looks to us like a box). But to each his own! I just know there are a lot of people like us out there straddling the fence, and I just want them to feel better, coming from someone who knows how it rides!
So for us, the addition of oil and instilling in our subconscience to warm it up, is a small price to pay for a sports car that you can actually take friends with you places, lower insurance, and just great performance.

I give the car an A-
Jon gives an A

Actually Booster, I didn't sleep the three nights before I finally made up my mind! HA HA
Slept like a baby last night! In part, from pure exhaustion and also I guess having it snug in the garage was peace of mind!

You must be the group from Chattanooga? Me too, and welcome.. I'm guess I'm considered "old people" too (48). Maybe I'll see your cars around... I live in E.Brainerd..... Assume you got the cars in Cleveland?

good to see you got the price down on both cars. There was no reason for you to pay those exceptionally high prices you were quoted.

Thank goodness for nice people! We would have spent ~$6k more for the cars had no one taken the time to talk and work out deals!
Hello FastRunner! Nice to meet fellow Chattanoogans that have 8s!! Since Jon and I both got one... we already have our own little club!! You KNOW it is a good car when a husband and wife can AGREE on something!! Ha ha
But we would love to meet the Chattanooga Club. I'll have to go post in the SE Forum :D

How old is adult? I'm 34 and the car fits perfectly into my lifestyle, but for people a little younger but still adult, I can see it being less of a sports car thatn they would want. (More than I have ever needed but that's me.)

32 here and just barely an adult. More of a state of mind than an age.

Adult is all a state of mind!! :p
I guess I didn't convey 'adult' as meaning: thinking of all-around fit of the vehicle vs. what your friends think/how fast it will go.

My hubby is in his early thirties as well. Calling him an 'adult'... eh, maybe stretching a bit! ha ha (he reads this forum). But when it comes to asking yourself "why do I want this car", the answer isn't "because it's cool, fast, etc". I think if (at any age) you are more impressed with what others think, and not what you think... then you are a 'young'en'. It is always nice to impress, but I wouldn't think of getting a boxy car just because friends would think it is fast. In my opinion, that is not exercising responsibility. That is 'young' to me :D

"Something to care for and have it love you back . . . " -- I have to say I love the idea of owning a car that won't let you treat it like an appliance. Make sure the engine is warm before shutting it off? No problem. Shift gears frequently to stay up on the torque curve? With pleasure. Feel the contours of the road through the steering wheel? Yes, please! For me, sports cars are all about retaining connections among driver, machine, and road. On that score, the RX-8 is a delight!

If you find a RX-8 Club in Chattanooga, let me know... There is a Scenic City Miata Club, but I have been unable to find the 8 club. Maybe you could start one since you guys probably own over half of the 8's in Chattanooga?

Glad you both like the cars, but I couldn't imagine getting 2 of the exact same vehicle (save for the color) You guys are the 2nd couple here to do that. If I was in that situation, which I'm not (most people here in NYC don' t even have 1 car) I would have probably gotten 2 different vehicles, and enjoyed switching off every other day, etc. Long story but I was without an RX8 for 6 weeks while I drove my Probe GT, after having the RX8 for 4 months. I even stopped browsing here so much. But now that I have it again, it's like it was the first time. I think driving another vehicle makes you appreciate the non driven one once you get it back. And if I was dead on 2- I'd buy the first one, enjoy it for a month or two to see how I really liked it in everyday use, and then make my decision- who knows- maybe you would have decided Navigation is great, or though hell- I don't need a sunroof, etc., or I'll get one stripped down and put the money towards a turbo at some point, etc.

Glad you guys love the 8- I know I do, and can't wait to recieve my Canzoomer unit to make it even faster.

sheesh all you guys with girlfriends who love the rx-8 are lucky. my girlfriend likes the car, yeah... she like to be DRIVEN AROUND in the car. she won't touch the steering wheel with a 10 foot pole. i thought her how to drive the damn thing, and she picked it up real quick, took her two days to be driving on surface streets, but she STILL won't take it around. not that i'm complaining, but those of you whose girlfriends know how to drive manual and love the car... >:O you're lucky

Oh Emailists, bite your tongue!! lol
If we had bought anything else, we would have been fighting over who got the 8 for the day! That would be a fight waiting to happen!! ha ha

Fastrunner, I talked to Jon and after the dust settles, we would like to try to schedule something as it gets warmer :D
We can also set up a site online (we have all the resources). It would be simple to set-up a RX-8 website. I guess we just need to make a member list of some sort and maybe a name?? We've never started anything such as this, only thing close we've done is host our hiking group's website. Would you be interested? If so, maybe we should post in the SE forum. I just would like to know there is some interest before posting such.

Meowloud, I live in Nashville (Belleview) and would LOVE to drive to Chattanooga to get together with other '8' owners. (Sitting here wondering about a 'back roads' way up and over the 'mountain'. Boy, that would be fun.)

My '8' is also a Sunlight Silver (sport package M/T). Roughly 9,000 miles on the odometer.

If a 'club' forms there, please let me know.

BTW, nice logo signature. Happy cat? Or sleeping cat?

Would also try to attend some chattanooga events. Not too far from hotlanta. Also willing to hang with any knoxville owners, as I am there about once a month. Always looking for like-minded drivers.

Yea, I would be interested in helping get it started... I also have some resources in web stuff, and some contacts in the local Scenic City Miata club.... Just getting some interest and a "member" list of local 8 owners would be a good start...

Adult? I refuse to grow up. It's just that my tastes, likes and dislikes have become a bit more refined. I didn't even have to think twice before I bought my 8. Having had an RX-3 too many years ago, I knew what to expect. Only now, I wanted a.... little more luxury. I told my wife, (who at first wasn't really thrilled about the purchase - but has since come around), that I wanted to get the car I deserved now, while I'm still young enough to really enjoy it, but old enough to appreciate it.
I live in a college town that also has an automotive tech school, and am constantly being challenged to a little street action. Most of the time, I just blow it off. But every so often...
Besides, this car is more suited to the winding mountain roads that surround the valley here. Which, when the snow finally melts off for the two weeks out of the year, is where I'll be.
Playing, and living.

Hey all,
We are planning a get together in Knoxville for sometime in April.
I like the idea of a club. Maybe make it all of East Tenn?
There is already a thread here on East TN 8's that could be used.

Jen & Jon,
Congrats on your purchases. (And BTW, I'm 61).

Regards,
Dave

Spoken like someone who hasn't even driven an S2000 or 350Z... /shrug.

The RX-8 is a GREAT Sports Sedan... Don't get me wrong... Very nice 4'ish door peppy vehicle.

... that gets sh!tty gas milage and randomly strands you from an accidental stall when cold. (So much for refinement)

So...you say the S2000 & 350z don't have the following, and only the RX-8 does eh?? :

Sophisticated feel with light luxury. (My cloth RX-8 isn't nearly as luxurious as my S2000...next..

Fast Touring.- Are you really trying to say the 350z and S2000 aren't "Fast" touring?? Or did you mean "Slower touring than other vehicles of similar price"??

Will put you in the seat for YOU, not for others! - /Shrug.. since when do you buy an S2000 or 350z for others? Its not like they are high-end vehicles...

Just a little space.- Whoo Hoo!! You found something actually factual! Good for you! Hats off

Something to care for and have it love you back. - Thats just a stupid *** statement to make over an inert object.

Conclusion: "Hi, I just bought and RX-8, its the best... look at me!!"

...I own an RX-8 and this thread still annoys me...

What, not getting respect at work?? Sorry, I just had to stoop to your level for a second! :p
Let me try to explain what many, if not most others gathered from my post and you tryed to be (your probably always) obtuse self....

#1 We have an S2000. Traded with a good friend before he moved out of state. Hubby was going to buy a new one... but I just didn't think they improved them since they first came out (except for fixing the convertible window from clouding).

#2 Yes it is 'bad' gas mileage (I have a little more self respect than to use crude words such as yours to describe the mileage) BUT IT IS A SPORTS CAR... IT IS NOT A SEDAN! GAS IS ALWAYS BAD ON A SPROTS CAR

#3 If you don't mind, please re-read. As you can see, I am pointing more to 'young' people who will take anything japanese made and make it fast or buy something FAR from comfortable just because it is fast. And I must say from experience, the S2000 is FAR from luxurious.

#4 ONCE AGAIN, when I mean for others, I mean the kids who only buy something to impress OTHERS.

#5 I'm sorry for your cloth seats. You MAY have felt a bit more comfortable with leather seats. Leather is a bit more luxurious. You can't really compare cloth seat RX-8 to an always leather S2000. *cough/laugh

#6 Thanks for pointing out that I was correct about the space, but really, no need for help, I've got it from here :D

#7 No, I'm not the best... only a proud owner who would like to read a post that shows this is a quality car and that since I am older, I won't have 'kids' trying to race me because this is a bit more refined vehicle for the ricer kids who stoplight race.

#8 Metaphorically, it will love you back. Such as: be dependable, materials last, etc.

CONCLUSION: I would like to take this moment to ask for no negative replies. This was not a discussion thread, yet a comment on MY experience. I am not glad that you are irritated, yet I get the feeling A LOT irritates you. You may want to try Valium. I also know a good doctor that is a friend. Please let us know if we can help.
