I got my weekend fun car first because I can't live without it. Therefore, until I get enough money (and a garage!) to justify owning two cars, it'll have to do double duty as a daily driver. My RX-8 has 17,000 miles on it already, and I still have the better part of 3 months to go before I've even had it for a year. Lately, I've been thinking about getting a 2000-2005 Celica GT-S for a daily driver. I owned a 2000 before and it was fun, economical at 30 mpg (city and 80+ mph highway runs), and has quite a bit of cargo capacity.

I see a few posts about not driving their RX8 in the rain. I get what your saying, i'm like that with old cars. The RX8 is great in the rainf, particularly for a rear wheel drive car and its a nice place to be kinda like a cacoon!

Well...mine is still in hibernation so most definitely not a dd.
2004 with 3800 miles and only seen rain once!
Getting REAL antsy for warmer weather.

Not my daily driver but then I don't drive daily. I work at home and often just go for an escape drive under the guise of running an errand or something.

Yesterday I took it to the local small town hardware store and zipped into the rarely available parking space right in front of the double glass entrance doors. Caused quite a stir inside. "Wow!, what kind of car is that..." You gotta love it!

I have gotten the "what kind of car is that?" question a couple times. Kansas City ain't as big time as LA or NY or even Dallas. But I don't mind!

base on the poll results so far, looks like Mazda's plan to re-introduce the rotary as a 'practical' sports car is working out as planned!

I drove mine only when I want to or on weekends. I could count how many days day car got wet in the rain since I bought it. It have never seen salt on the road for the past 2 years. Each time I take it out for a drive i make sure to do at least a 20+ miles. You know how that goes...you drove back and about to put it in the garage and then you decide to back out and go for couple more miles for no good reason. It is the most fun car I have every own.

I drive my 8 in just about all weather, but it doesn't really snow to hard in Maryland right outside of DC. The few days we had heavy snow I had my boss pick me up on his way in. I can also take the subway if I have to.

I want to sell my 8 this summer and buy an elise and I plan to use that as a daily driver except when the roads are salty, then I'll have to buy a beater.

monthly car, only drive the rx8 twice a month or sometimes 3 times.

Daily driver is my 88 crx. (see my sig)

Family car is either my girls 2000 civic or 2005 mazda tribute.

The not-driving-the-8-in-the-rain attitude amuses me. I drive mine *predominantly* in the rain (since rain generally keeps me off the motorcycle). Sadly, now that I've moved to Seattle, it seems like there's never any chance to NOT drive in the rain...

due to a series of misfortunate events that have befallen me in the last several months, my new Rx-8 is my daily driver. with time and some slave labor, this will hopefully not be the case later this year. i plan to get a daily beater and replace my former Rx-7 with another one.

*keeping fingers crossed*

its my work commute, my play commute, my lunch commute, my fun commute, my grocery getter, my mail getter, my chick magnet, my riced-out Honda magnet, my topic of conversation, my reason no one will hold a conversation with me, my 4-wheel set of iPod speakers, my pride, and my joy

i spend most of the morning at work devising reasons to drive it somewhere on my breaks. i got back in my 2000 Civic coupe for a couple days while the 8 was getting worked on, and what once felt like a nimble, sporty little coupe now felt like driving a station wagon

i dont think ill drive anything else unless i cant help it!

awesome post, man.

right now, i guess i'm stuck comparing it to Rx-7s, but i'm trying to stop that and let it show me it's own merits. for some reason while it does feel a little smoother, it seems harder to drive smoothly.

at any rate, this time, a year from now, i hope i feel about my 8 as you feel about yours. good stuff.

DD- Carpool hauler, lunch runs, hardware store, groceries, anytime excuse car. Won't go to the movie theater parking lots or mall with it though. Only where I can park it safely away from others when gone for long.

Drive it every day and love the experience. I keep her clean and shiny; well, except for the CD's on the back seat. Just not enough room for some of the small stuff. OR..I am not well organized. Oh, and I average over 18 mpg. All city driving. Am I too conservative maybe? Next weekend my sweetheart and I will travel to Lake Charles for a few days, so for the second time in 7 months my 8 will be set free to test the speed limits on I-10. Hopefully no tickets.

Daily driver and trying to stop. There are long periods when it does not have to move but for the most part its a DD. I will succeed in getting a second car shortly so I can give her a break, especially in the winter.

Daily driver although my commute is 30 seconds - I mostly work from home. I just hit the 1 year mark and still managed to put 15K on it

Woohoo!
