Angry Damn It!!!! CEL after ONLY 2 weeks!

I'm so pissed right now!

I've only had my '05 for 2 two weeks and I just got a CEL. I was leaving my girlfriend's house, started the car, and the CEL came on.

I took a double take becaue I COULDN'T believe it.

Off to the dealership before work. Wish me luck, I'll let you guys know...

P.S. Car did seem a bit sluggish earlier today in 1st and 2nd gear....

cel right after start is almost always evap leak test failure which usually is because the gas cap is not on correctly. calm down. you can get a cel 1 minute after picking it up it doesnt mean there is some giant issue.

I hope its what Zoom said. Think of it this way. At least you weren't on a road trip in the middle of BFE !

Zoom, 09: you guys are probably right. It'll most likely end up being something minor.

I guess I just needed to vent last night... I remember thinking, "Damn it, not already! Gotta go home and post this on the forum." :o

Dropped it off this morning to get CEL looked at plus:

-Sunglass holder doesn't open smoothly
-MS Wing (that they installed) isn't completely flush in one of the corners
-Tiny ding in the fender that they caused while installing wing.

I'm driving a Mazda 3. Having fun with the triptronic.

I'll keep everyone posted.

...

I had my CEL come on last month. Got the recall done. Came on again after about two weeks. Evap leak. Fixed that.

About two weeks till now...Guess what? My airbag light came on today.

I'm a little pissed.

Ah, the Mazda 3. I loved mine so much I kept it instead of trading it in. It's an amazing vehicle that seems to have a pain staking amount of detail to everything. If it makes you feel any better my Mazda 3 wouldn't start after about a month and a half after I bought it new. When it did start it popped and wheezed and blue smoke out the back. Engine light kept coming on.

I had bought the very first batch of 3's made. Turns out they had a bad run on the first batch of PZEV Ca only fuel pumps and they weren't pressurizing correctly. They replaced it and the car has worked flawless every since.

Sometimes you just get a funky sensor or part. Luck of the draw.

Update:

Picked my car up yesterday and sure enough Zoom was right. (again) Dealership said it was evap, caused by a loose gas cap. Weird part is I was already down to half a tank. Must have just taken a bit to trigger the CEL.

Dealership is very friendly (Tustin Mazda) but they forgot to install my floor mat hooks (AGAIN). Oh well, back to the dealership I'll go next week...

I had a CEL because of the gas cap. start/stop the car 6 - 10 times and it clears

you guys just really don't like to close your gas caps nice and snug huh

make sure it 'clicks' a few times so it totally closed! one click may not be enough!

ZoomZoom:

That's the weirdest part about it. Growing up as a kid my dad made sure to show me that when you put a gas cap on, that it should click three times.

I've been doing that for bout 20 years now.

Yeah, the gas cap is the first thing I check when I see that. I've never had a CEL that wasn't a gas cap thing, cause I live in NJ and we don't pump our own gas, and the attendants don't really give a sh*t so they don't make sure it's closed

Isn't it against the law in N.J to pump your own gas? Dang!
