I hope Haze didn't get arrested or cause an international incident b/c I beleive that drivers are Japanese.

Oh I just realized why most of the pics came out dark - I had the camera on full auto! GRRR! Oh well....

Ya know.... I could go up there very early in the morning to cause an international incident of my own..... :D

NAH!

The cars will be here next week (not mine of course) so everyone should be able to see them in person . Unless they are delayed...........

Thanks for the pics & posting them. Looks like the front air dam just clears the curb stop.

Thanks for the pics. I noticed the Mazda van next to the RX8s, perhaps the support vehicle? I'd hate to have to drive the van while two RX8s are driving in front of me...it'd be torture.

1 - Both cars are being driven for 15k miles - coast to coast - in 2- 3 weeks total time. Mazda wants to test the cars for mileage and other factors.
2 - The drivers are babying the cars. He said he saw them checking the oil and then meticulously adding drops of oil.
3 - Everyone at the dealer were completely shocked when the 8s pulled up - they weren't even sure that they were 8s at first! The drivers arranged the cars in front of the main building for people to see. My guess if you find out that the 8s are at your dealer - get there before the evening if you want to see them b/c the drivers have a schedule to follow, they need to get set up at a hotel/motel and will leave the very next day for their next stop.
4 - My dealer said that their next stop will be Boston/NE (from Philly???). After that they head south to West Virginia and then to the WC. Not sure if they are make stops in-between (but my guess is 'yes' b/c why would they bypass NY?).

They are headed for Charleston WV July 4th & then on to Detroit July 5th. From Detroit they will head south. Most dealer visits are not planned, so I don't know which ones they will visit. The next big Dealer stop will be at the Roger Beasly stores- Austin Texas (All three). They will be there the morning & afternoon of July 10th.

The purpose of this trip is to rapidly put miles on production cars. (15k miles) At the end of the trip the cars wil be gone through to see how they held up. Also, to check fuel & oil consumption, brake pad / tire wear etc.. This has been done with prototype cars, but it's always good to see how a car straight off the production line will do. By the way, their not being babied! they are driven very hard & in all parts of the country to get a real world result.

I will post their next big dealer stop after July 10th if anyone is interested. Anyone interested?

Its sweet they'll be in Austin on Wednesday, and my dealer (RB North) is under the impression that they'll get their first shipment in on Thursday. I wish I could make it to see two that have been driven hard, but unfortunately I'll be at work in Houston. Doh! Any plans to go back through H-town?

Just reporting what my sales rep's impressions. Maybe I should have said that the drivers are taking care of the cars as if they are their babies (washing, detailing, making sure everything is OK with them in general)- sort of like we will when we get ours

Got sort of busted . . . ran into my girlfriend on the way out, and stupidity is not her cup of tea. I guess that I'm waiting 'til they arrive at the dealer to see them. Oh well, I don't think that the next few days are going to bug me too much. Thanks for the photoes though - H

Staying in Knoxville evening of the 8th. Then to Jackson MS the 9th. Unfortunately don't know the dealer visits in between, just in Austin on the 10th. After Austin they head back north to St. Paul MN.

There was just enough space to fit my finger between there...

I used to have a system with my ol' Celica where'd I'd line up the line of the curb (or lines) with my sideview mirrow. That way, I'd never scrape the bottom of the dam/bumper... or worse.

Looks like I'll have to do the same with the 8.

LOL! Oh well....

She prob was right though... sneaking through the parking lot in the middle of the night to see the new RX-8s doesn't sound like something the cops would believe.... Though, you could have just said you belong to the same club as the guys that were "checking out cars" in the VW commercial. lol

Hopefully, we'll get some word soon about ours......

Green: I was wondering about the van as well; however, I didn't even bother to look inside or at the plates - too enthralled by the 8's.

Mazda Monkey, are they 'visiting' a dealership in Knoxville sometime on the 8th? (My sons are students at UTK and, if I knew where to send them (dealership), I would give them a mission on the 8th!)

Do the 'travel plans' indicate a passage through Nashville?

Not going through Nashville. Don't know if they will stop at a dealer in Knoxville. If they have time, it's possible. There is only 1 mandatory stop per week. Next week it's in Austin TX.

Failed Recon trip to catch Touring RX-8s

Took a chance I could find the RX-8s in Charleston overnight. Searched nearly every hotel from near the Mazda dealer in South Charleston to the north side. Nothing. Talked to someone at the dealer Sat AM, only comment he had was someone said they thought they saw one on the 4th. Drats. Wasted a bit of time and money on this dry run! Hope others have better luck finding them!
