Dealer Service Pricing

Did you guys know that dealers can charge whatever they want and Mazda has no influence?

I went to Mazda of Roswell, in Georgia and they chared me $190 for .4hrs and $88 for a part they paid $22. for. (They "gave me a deal" on the part too.

I just assumed Mazda would give them guidelines -- minimums and caps.

What, you didn't get an estimate before you approved the work? They should have standard per hour shop rates. These vary across the country.

anytime you get work done anywhere for anything you should have a signed estimate first. and the language in the contract should be such that no work over a certain amount done if random things creep up.

I did get an estimate that I verbally approved. On the spot you don't have time to check pricing and can only make some assumptions that you're not getting ripped off. They gave the total and not a break down. The shop claims $95 an hour, but this does not include a $110 diagnostic fee.

The bottom line is, they found a way to screw people who came in trusting they'd get a reasonable deal.

MAZDA OF ROSWELL in GA have a bunch of THEIVES in thier service department.

Your best bet is a performance shop that specializes in rotary cars. Always cheaper and if there is an after market part that is improved over oem... they will tell you about it!

They do seem shady for only giving a verbal estimate. My dealership gives a written estimate for everything they do and I sign it before any work is started.
