Dealer severely overfilled my oil!!!

Dealer changed my oil yesterday. I popped the hood this morning and I had oil covering the intake manifold and around the engine block, and it was also COMING OUT OF MY AIR FILTER!! I've got the K&N II so it was really easy to see. There was a puddle of oil at the bottom of the filter element, and a bunch of oil that had already spilled out of the filter. I poured about 3-4 ounces of oil out of the filter after I removed it!

Not to mention I just cleaned and re-oiled my filter 2 days ago! And, I was very careful not to over-oil my filter.!

**** the dealers!!!

Anyone know of a good cleaner for my MAF and intake/throttle body? The autoparts stores near me don't sell a specific cleaner for MAF, only electrical cleaner and intake cleaner.

(sorry for the double post, but I'm really salty right now)

...they overfilled oil so much that it was coming out of my intake. Instead of towing, waiting 1-2 days to get my car back, I'm just going to clean the mess myself.

>The oil level is now at Full, I guess they drained some back out (and stripped my drain plug-which they replaced+gasket)

I would not touch a thing. Except to take pics and call them to bring a Tow and rental car. Thats the only way they will learn. Here is another one that did the same thing.

^You think they would give me a new MAF? Or, just clean it themselves?

I doubt they will replace a $131 aftermarket air filter? You?

The dealer wanted to tow it in, said they may not be able to look at it until tomorrow and I really didn't want to wait on them or trust them again.

I wish it was a joke.

I guess I'm gonna look at the MAF more closely tonight, and then clean it if necessary. I've already started cleaning the air filter.

I would make them fix everything back to exactly the way before they first laid thier hands on my car. But that's just me.

Figures, my dealer is a bunch of imcompetent morons when it comes to oil changes. They asked me four times when I took my car in if I wanted an oil change and four times I told them no. Got the bill and had to pay 30 bucks for an oil change.

They probably farmed out the job to jiffy lube or they have their lot boys change the oil.

Many dealers send their cars out to have oil changed.

Cleaning your own MAF isn't hard, just unscrew it, pull it out and be careful not to touch any internal parts, and spray it with carb&choke cleaner, then use a can of compressed air to dry it.

Good advise - some people try to use q-tips on those thin wires inside the MAF and they break so easily. Carb cleaner will do a good job but if you can find it CRC makes a cleaner specifically for cleaning MAF's - about $5 at the local parts store.

They only put 0.4 mi. on the car, otherwise I might agree with that. I guess whoever it was they were about half retarted.

Did you check the dipstick? How much was it overfilled? I just had my oil chaged at a dealership and they overfilled it by about a half a quart. Do you guys think it should be okay?

how high was the oil on your dipstick? The reason I ask is because the picture I posted was from a friend's car and it wasn't because the oil was overfilled.
Had to do with the K&N intake and needing to reuse some screen from the OEM, otherwise it could cause oil to come back up. There's a thread about it somewhere.... let me go see if I can find it.

Why is it so hard to put the right amount of oil in? I here stories like this all the time. My experience with dealerships is that have regular joes off the street changing the oil while the real mechanics fix cars. And the farming out thing should be illegal. I'm not paying jiffy lube, i'm paying them because they are the experts on my car yet they charge me for that quality of service and give me grade EE service. WTF over?

The oil was just barely above Full. I'm starting to think it was filled too fast like someone said, and it came through the breather tube, but there is also the oil on the intake manifold and down on the block and pan.

I am using the oem screen, and haven't had any issues like this in the past, even when the oil was intentionally overfilled a little (by the dealer).

Well, I finished tearing down, cleaning, and putting my intake back together. Luckily, the MAF didn't seem to have been affected-I had just inspected it the other day when I cleaned the filter.

Just chalk it a lesson learned-Do It Yourself!!!
