Dealer's attitude when driving in...

Guys,
I don't know if it is just me or not but when I go to the dealer with the 8 these guys have such BS attitude that is hard to comprehend...

When I drive in with the Miata they are all over asking me "are you trading up?"...

Just when asking a few items they don't seem very helpful especially when the car is spotless..

What gives? Dealers SUCK!!!

They know you're not there to buy something. They think you're there to complain about something (which they think is not their problem being sales and not services).

Funny thing is I dropped by a Mazda dealership today and nobody came to help me.

Kewl name btw...

My sales guy is very helpful with any questions I may have. But then again, it took a few weeks of shopping last year to find one who was competent and make me feel at ease.

When I go back to the dealer, he still greets me. I don't expect the other sales reps to give me the time of day - which is OK.

Service is always courteous. Treats me well. But then again, I don't go waltzing into the dealer expecting to be treated like a celebrity either.....

I love my dealer. But my cousins fiance (John) went to one in his area (allentown, PA). He is looking for a new car and wants a sports car. He asked the dealer for a test drive of the 8. The dealer said "This car has a lot of quirks so let me drive first." He thought ok whatever they went out to a blue RX-8 and John stood next to it. The dealer told him "Not that one, Rx-8's don't start in the winter and that one has been here all winter. Oh, and next november you will have to buy some winter tires. But if it does start in the winter it may flood" John said nevermind and is now thinking about a 6, but probably won't get it because the dealer was a d@$k. Needless to say I got a fun phone call after that dealership stop. And our family memeorial day party i spent a half an hour explaining what that guy was talking about and about the rotary. Sometimes I wonder how they plan on selling cars.

I dunno, I feel sorry for the sales guys. The hours suck, the margins are constantly being squeezed so the pay probably sucks, and everyday, a dozen tire kickers come in to demand test drives of the hot models. Many of the good salespeople who take pride in product knowledge, salesmanship, etc. have been herded up to the more prestigious brands - and even there, some of the salespeople suck. But you can be sure that making a $75 commission for selling a Tercel or last year's MPV has very limited appeal.

Well, at least being up front about it is better than what I got at the first few dealers I visited. I asked the salesperson questions about the flooding issues, gas mileage, oil, and winter driving. They feigned ignorance about all of those things. Or maybe they were just ignorant!

my dealer back home was pretty good too. I didnt even buy the car at this dealership (because I ended up getting a better rate for driving to another one).

Anyway, one of the sales guys was great when I had an issue w/ my car. He was an older guy too so I'm guessing he cared about his job. It only took him an extra 5 minutes to walk over to the service dept and make sure my car's issues were being resolved, and to check the status. Thats great customer service imo.

The only thing the younger guys see is $$$$$$$. They're like young waiters (rookie waiters) "If its not their table... its not their problem."
