good luck man! I'm glad to see that it's still covered under warranty! They're replacing my Intake Manifold, but I have to wait until Monday because they're out of stock on Intake Manifolds (sounds obsurd to me) so..yeah Monday... This is going to be one SLOW weekenddd...

I don't know if it's just me, maybe others have noticed this as well. But when you get your car serviced at your local Mazda dealership, do they always give you the "out of stock" excuse.

I can understand if they didn't have a rear end link for the rear axle in stock, but i've gotten that excuse for SPARK PLUGS!!!, A/T FLUID!!, and they kept my car in their shop for 3 days and all I wanted was an alignment...

It's a friggin Mazda Dealer! I feel i'd be better off going to a local family owned shop because they would probably have more rx-8 parts...

sorry about the rant, I love my car, but I HATE my dealer's service.

Remember when people knew how to work on cars and didn't need to read the code out of a computer? I know cars are way more complicated now, but it's just ridiculous that you can go into great detail about the problems you are having and have them come back saying they have no idea what the problem is.

The whole industry has moved towards disposable cars and so the mechanics have become simple quick-patch drones.

I've gotten the same Out-of-stock excuse for when I had them replace my tail lights. Because just like every other 04 it is like a little miniature goldfish bowl (over exaggeration, it just had condensation on all over the inside). I was like...You're a Mazda Dealership, there's atleast 4 8's ont he lot, and you don't have replacement tail lights?

Oh get this, they had a replacement Driver side Visor (Mine got broken on a road trip some how...My mother was driving because I had just gotten it, Women...)

They have Visors but not Tail lights...that makes no sense to me. Tail lights having leaks are a known problem...but Sun Visors? Anyway they made me wait a few days to get them replaced.

Unfortunetly they NEVER have fixed my little Front Defrost button. Half of it's missing, and the last 2 times I've taken it in I told them to replace it. Whenever I leave and drive off I notice it and I feel like Milton from Office Space, just on the way home I'm like "my..my...my button. My button was not fixed. I told them to fix it. I specifically said I wanted my button fixed. M-m-my button..."

That reminds me, guess I need to call them back and tell them about that.

Sorry to laugh, but the Milton analogy is funny!
BTW...............the visor is a big known issue. Probably more so than the aquarium tail lights. But to pour salt in your wound.............not on mine and I live in Florida where it doesn't rain...............it dumps!

hahaha Office Space = Hilarious!

I'd put a big piece of bright pink or green construction paper pointing to the button so they don't miss it next time...

and having sun visors but not tail-lights makes no sense to me either! They will honestly say anyting to get out of doing any work, it's sad.

I bet you they have at least 3 intake manifolds in stock, but they know that if they admitted to having one in stock, that they'd be committed to do work, and they don't like doing work. When I went in to drop off my keys, I saw 4 guys in the service area flexing their muscles to eachother. All I thought to myself (other than the obvious WTF? thoughts) was "someone's not getting their Mazda MPV back for a while.."

Why would they want to work on a friday? replacing the intake manifold means they'd have to stay past 5!

I did have my visor replaced(drivers side), that is truly the only issue I have had.

this is the real problem with the car...its not that there are issues with the biuld quality. Its the bullshit service most of us are getting. You shouldn't have to go into defense mode just to get your car worked on. IT's what finally has tipped the scales for me with this car.

I'll be honest..............I haven't had hardly any issue with my car, but my dealership has been good and this is the third vehicle I have bought from them.
Supposedly they have one of(if not the) top Mazda mechanic in the states. I know that might seem like BS, but I've seen his numerous awards in the shop. Have to be careful about stereotyping all dealerships just like anything else. If you have another dealership close by...............I would try them.

Just got off the phone with the dealership for the final verdict:

1. Flashed the CPU.

2. I need to start using a higher octaine gas.

3. LOL WE DIDN'T HAVE TO WORK TODAY

Seriously what the hell? Using a higher octaine gas and flashing the CPU is going to make it so my car no longer almost stalls out when I'm at a dead stop and is a bit sluggish when it starts moving? And that will fix the odd noise I hear at higher RPMS and the weird chirp I hear in low RPM's.

I'm taking it somewhere else that will give it a free look-over if the problems come back. If they don't then it's a miracle from Jesus that something so simple could fix my problems.

So now if you'll all join the Mears Mazda Dealership family and join me in a unison:

Edit: Going over to pick it up in 45 Minutes. Crossing my fingers that everything runs fine. Cool thing everytime I take it in the dealership is nice enough to run it through their car wash, I guess it's a way of saying "Sorry we're fking you"

Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep same problem

Just like some other guy on the forums recently experienced, at an idle my car will bounce around between 750-1k RPM every other second, and sometimes has this lound noise that sounds like someone is playing drums on my engine. It's kind of like the the beat goes to the speed of the a belt or something, it's consistant in speed.

And as soon as I turn my A/C BOTH the problems go away. I don't get it, my car spent 3 days inthe shop and they told me nothing is was really wrong with it and that they wiped the CPU and told me to start using 92 Octaine fuel so the problem wouldn't persist.

Well I'm sorry Mazda Dealership, but whenever you say the problem is fixed and I experience the same thing as soon as I'm sitting at a light 20 yards away from the stealership, something IS wrong.

Ughhh I'm going to have to take it back in to these retards otherwise if I take it somewhere else I'll just have to hope they honor the factory warranty?

No idea what happend but when I got off work, it was running just fine. I hadn't redlined her in awhile, so I drove it like I stole it for about 10 minutes and then after that everything was pretty cool...I don't know what the hell is going on

Exxon Supreme. The way to go, at least for my 8. I'm still having a hard time understanding what a SMALL vacuum leak had to do with swapping out the entire intake manifold!?

You never know, it might be something that's unrepairable or something. If it's rubber part that's cracked the only thing they can do is replace it =/

Well, if they *just* flashed your computer. The Idle will act super funky. but maybe after 5 drive cycle it should go back to normal *which is about 810 rpm~ A/C on OR off*

1 drive cycle usually means you drive your car from Cold to warm, at least 10-15 minutes. I think

If your car has no problem using lower octane, stick with it. but you can always give the premium a shot see if the problem goes away. I almost always use Premium because in NYC is just like 20 cents diffs the most(between regular and Prem, each gallon) no big deal for me.

Your dealership just applied another quick-patch, just want to get your car out of the dealership, so I guess you should start looking for another dealership.

Oh also, what exactly did they do to your car? can you scan or typed the stuff from the invoice ?

Do me a favor Shini, Park your car next to a wall. About door length open away. At a stop next to the wall, door open, foot on brake and then put your car in first gear and listen to the sound. Then shift it into second (foot still on the brake). Do this at an idle. See if that chirping noise your hearing changes/goes away. Try it in neutral too just for fun.
If that be the case tell them that you think the motor mounts are bad. Due to vibration/noise felt/heard at a stop. There is an update on the engine mounts for
'04 and '05 AT.
As far as the stalling, mine's done that a few times in the past month. Mine is going in for a new engine next week.
Keep us posted.

As far as I know they've already replaced the motor mounts from the first visit I had with them. I'll do what you said though.

Hey Guys
Sorry to hear about all your trouble with dealerships. I work at a Honda one in TX, and I have to order parts for customers everyday. You have to remember that a dealer cant keep every part in stock all the time, also the demand on intake manifolds may have used up all Mazda supply right now. My 8 is an 04 6spd, and when I first crank the car I have a chirping noise also, but only when the a/c is on. (Compressor kicking on and off) Keep pressure on the service department, but understand when parts are out of stock. One other thing a dealership has to try to fix a problem that they dont understand more than once before Mazda/Honda/whoever will send an engineer down to help. I have also had to replace both taillights and my drivers side sunvisor twice. Had the motor test did not need a new one, and love my car.

Has Been a very long time since I have posted. But things have been way too busy for the time I was gone LOL.

Got my engine, clutch replaced and got preggers LOL.
So now I am banned, by my hubby from driving my car except to work cause My aggression level multiplied by 30.. LOL.. So if you see Obtuse running around like a madwoman on my way to and from work. It is just me. :P

Anyways. Reading on the long annoyance you have had with Mazda... And sad to say I think they try that shyt with everyone... After going in to Mazda myself with the same problem for the 5th time..

First I kept a documentation of everything... Wrote extensive logs on how my 8 was running before and after I took her in to be fixed. Then I got a hold of Mazda Corporate customer services and I filed a complaint..

My poor girl finally got fixed a few days after Mazda talked to them, the service writer finally got fired (idiot was telling me that my car need cylinder parts to be fixed like I knew shyt about my car) and the assistant shop manager now handles myself and my car...

And lately cause of the High heat in Vegas, I had my Engine replaced because the Gasket seals were warped and cracked. Granted I was w/out my car for 1 agonizing month and had to drive a Buick boat around. I finally have my baby girl back...

But in order for them to take you seriously and be willing to properly fix and care for your car I strongly suggest that you go above their heads and get corporate involved.

And be sure to write your claim number in case you have to get ahold of them to add more to your file.

Thanks for some more input. I'm just going to drive it over the weekend and see how it does. I'm at work right now, and from my apartment to work it was fine, did a few a redline or two after the engine warmed up and everything was running relatively smooth. If it keeps this up then I'll just chalk one up to me babying it too much and not taking it to redline...ever >_<

Anyway, we'll see how that goes. Sorry to hear about your 8 Cacophany. That must have really sucked. I went through 3 days without mine and felt sick =O

Screw it. It's still doing the trick where it idles weird and makes some strange noise when the AC is on. I'm gonna take it on Monday morning before work and drive it around a bit til it start doing it then pull up to the service department and be like "WTF YOU SEE?!"...Maybe THEN they'll know what to fix/and or how to fix it.

Bring it back, the idle is too weird (jumps around from 750 to 1K every other second?)

if they still say is fine. Then I guess u might want to tell Mazda about this

Dealerships are like this, they automatically thinks ALL customers are dumbasses

Yeah it idles normally around 750, then it will go up to 1k for a sec, down to 750 for a sec, up to 1k for a sec, down to 750 for sec. up and down up and down up and down...etc etc. Then it'll start making a noise after awhile.

Turn off my A/C and BOOM. Problem solved. It's weird =(
