Dealership: RX-8 = Volvo
According to the Service Techs at the dealership down the road from me RX-8's are just like Volvos.
Both service techs that were working said that.
Now I have to drive 40 miles across Houston to go to the usual dealership because there is no way in hell they are touching my car.
I'm not even going to bother with everything else that was said. Worst car/dealership experience ever.

I mean... this is a stretch... but Ford still owns part of Volvo, correct? I know we have a few ford parts in our car (clutch neutral switch for sure ) So perhaps that is what they meant? Even though I don't know why I am even trying to defend what they said.
Good call though taking your car away from those techs.

He said both cars have similar engines, then went on a rant about how rotaries burn oil...
An turbocharged inline 5 is nothing like a rotary anything.
I left soon after because I went in to get warranty work done. I think my pilot bearing is making a very loud whiiiirrrr noise in every gear and in nuetral. He said its probably caused from abuse and he would most likely void my warranty. He also noticed spark plugs in my cup holder(just changed them) and that changing spark plugs yourself will void the engine warranty.
Luckily he had neither my keys nor my vin and I decide to leave.

the local mazda dealership is also a volvo dealership here. maybe they're onto something...
i guess that explains why that old lady tried to get into my car instead of her 1980 volvo after we both had service done. they do look an awful lot alike.

Report the dealership to MANO. Tell them they said that the RX-8 is the same as a volvo engine wise, and that they wanted to void your warranty because you had spark plugs in your cup holder. Also tell them that they already diagnosed that you abuse your car without even ever actually doing anything but look at the outside of the car.
That's bullshit of the highest degree and if there is anyone who should be out of work in this economic climate, it's jackholes like this guy. If you write them nicely, they may even give you something for blowing the whistle on a bad tech. It may just be a pat on the back, but at lest you save someone else from getting screwed by this jerk.

Well, I alraedy did in the bad guy/good guy forum. It's best mazda off of 59 and beltway 8 on the SW side of Houston. I have shocks, springs, and a shifter (took the shifter out to avoid problems), but other than that I am completely OEM. I even have a new OEM air filter and use the OEM oil filters.
I think they already have a bad comment or 3 in the bad dealership thread, but the search function does not help on monster threads.
And yes as unbelievable as it sounds the service tech said that the engines in the volvo and the RX-8 are very similar.
Is it worth reporting this to MNAO?

As usual, I agree with Socket7. It's always worth reporting d-bag dealerships. It doesn't take much time and hopefully has a positive impact on somebody that doesn't know enough NOT to go to that place.

100% worth it. I don't want that tech near my car, and I think I speak for every RX-8 owner that knows their *** from their elbow. He won't get called on his idiocy unless you report him.

Anyone have the phone number for MNAO?
They never opened up a service ticket for my car, thank god. I can give them a call tomorrow after the repairs are hopefully complete by Munday Mazda.

Wait wait, did you talk to the service manager or the technician? BIG difference. I ALWAYS have to cus out service managers with warranty stuff and ask to see the technician and the techs are always like. "He's right (service manager name), we'll get right on it"

Munday Mazda called me today to give me the news.
Bad news: the whirrr noise of my transmission really is my transmission. Its getting rebuilt at 30,000 miles. The tech said he thinks its a bearing in the transmission. Its not a throw out bearing or pilot bearing or any of that. Something in the actual transmission itself.
Good news: Dealership is taking care of me. It will be covered under warranty and I get to keep the rental ('09 toyota corolla) until its fixed. The tech also said that if the clutch shows extreme signs of wear they will let me know so I can arrange for it to be replaced if need be.
Much different experience than what I received at the other dealership (Best Mazda)
