Dealership, warranty, CEL

Dealership, warranty, CEL
This has probably come up before but I could not find anything. My engine light has come on and off for a month at 22,000 miles, its on constantly now at 25,000. Dealership says code is missfire, and sparkplugs are shot but will not replace them.
Should they have to replace them as it is before the 30,000 miles Mazda states to replace them at? I don't know what to do. I have a set sitting here, but would rather get a set out of them. What do you guys think? Shouldn't mazda have to replace them since they died 6,000 miles before mazda says they should.

IMHO, no. That is maintenance part. However there is a TSB that makes them covered if the conditions are met.
Also there is a DIY on how to swap your own plugs. I would recommend it instead of paying them to do it. I did it and I suck at this stuff .
Take care,
Brian

Agree with the other two responses.
Consider also that a misfiring Renesis is NOT a good thing. With a dealership diagnosis, and not changing the plugs to correct (if the diag. is right), may cause MNAO to deny further engine damage.
Change the plugs yourself (search this site for best deals), and then if the problem is not corrected, go back to the dealer for a fix.
Good luck.

I guess I figured anything was a warranty issue if it had a premature failure. What TSB was it?
I already have a set of plugs out in the garage, was going to do them at 30000 miles. Just trying to get out of having to do it.
Thanks!

Just got back, they still charged me a $90 diagnostic fee, even though its still underwarranty. I don't think I should have to pay this as there was also a cat code (p0240) along with the missfire code coming. I pulled the codes before I left and both showed up. They cleverly said there was no cat code and just the missfire due to the plugs. Also had the P0240 a couple months ago which they said could not be fixed until the car was driven more and they had more data.
I might just call someone above them at mazda and complain. Anyone know who I complain to? I caught the service advisor in about seven lies, I guess they are use to dealing with stupid people. He even told me at one point doing the plugs myself would void the warranty, I had to go pull the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act card. That scared him a little and he quickly changed his tune. He also told me the plug was completely mechanically worn down and there was nothing left, I also don't buy that.
I love the car, but the dealership experience and these million little problems are really turning me off from ever buying another Mazda. At least the GM dealers around here try to take care of you.

Personally? I'd bring your plugs with you, go see the service MANAGER and see what can be worked out that is fair. If they want to install your plugs under that same $90 diagnostic fee I would find that to be a pretty fair conclusion. The best part about that is that MNAO would be happy with what's going on as well.
Just my .02. It makes sense to go up one steap at a time an dbe as nice as possible. I'm sure you will find the service manager to be accomodation if you proceed how you would choose to be approached and act in a reasonable manner.

I pulled the plugs and it still had the RE7A's in it. I believe these should of been replaced under the recall 4206f. I believe the RE7A's had many issues including premature failure and all the performance issues I exeperienced, I replaced them with the RE7C's which seem like a much different design. I brought this up to the dealer and they said they could not do anything until they talked to their boss. Does anyone know where I would find the phone number to the service manager or rep for mazda New England?
