holy ****, I am a bit late to the scene

I am holy !@#$!@#$ sorry to hear this.

I installed nitrous myself also. you can ask about 10 people on this forum the day my fuel line broke and I was leaking fuel out of my fuel line (yea, ask Saki, he was there) I lost about half a damn tank of gas that night.

however, the car didn't light up, and i was on WOT

so I must ask you: WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED!?!?!

again, I am sorry for your loss dude, John (SE3P) also got his car fucked this week....... sad

seriously, how did you install the line?

and to all other people trying to self-install nitrous.

PLEASE GET A NEW FUEL LINE TO INSTALL!! DO NOT USE THE OLD LINE!!
its not that much, at most its like 20$ >.<

Well, for starters I am very sorry to hear about your loss and you did handle it in a very responsible way. Now the other news, I am a licensed insurance adjuster for a large company. All i deal with every day are stolen and burnt vehicles. If you have any questions feel free to PM me. Although I can not assist you legally I have no problem speaking to someone about what I do. From everything you have said I would likely pay for the claim but would not pay for the cause of the fire. There would likely be a small deduction of the value of repair/total loss of vehicle depending on same. Also i have a couple questions regarding your coverage. Did you take any custom parts or equipment coverage out on your vehicle? This would be an extra coverage that insures anythign added to a stock vehicle. Each company deals with this differently, it also differs by state. Like I said earlier if you need anything shoot me a PM but again all policies differ by state and company. I just wanted to let your mind rest a little knowing that if I had this claim i would pay for it.

My fuel line has been fine for a few years now.
actually, in regards to fuel rails, pepboys actually have these ricer looking fuel lines that splits into 2 lines which I was telling you about 3 months earlier.

which i still think would be ownage for someone to make an rx-8 specific variation.

you should braid it too while you're at it

my NAPA 200PSI fuel line is doing fine for the moment

but yea, i had my moments of fuel leak

which is why I

1: keep about 2 feet of extra fuel lines in the back of the car along with all tools to refit the lines on the spot

2. fire extinguisher

3. quick release on nitrous bottle. regardless of all you "nitrous isn't flamable!!!" yes, I know its not stupid, but my bottle is pressured to almost 1k PSI, if the ******* thing is gonna blow, the sheer pressure will most likely kill me more than the fire it's self

4. 5 gallons of water in the car that I can drink OR put out flames if the occasion arises

I think nitrous is illegal in all the states.

I bet your insurance won't cover it.

Having the supply line hooked up on the street is. Otherwise, it's legal.

is it? I know many states have that, but my cousin is a cop in mississippi and when I talked to him, he said there's no issues with it but it varies by state. So either he doesnt care when he finds guys with it, he's wrong or he's right. I'm not an expert so I could be putting too much faith in what he said. As long as I never have issues with it, I dont care lol.

Just a note about the insurance that my cousin told me (who is an agent for State Farm) when I started telling him about the mods I made to my car.

Apparently when you insure your car, it is insured as a stock car, which is where the rates are derived from.

Once you begin modifying in any way you violate the terms of the insurance and the company could break the insurance at any time because of it. To be insured for mods you would have to have an auditor come out and assess your vehicle, take note of the mods, who installed them etc.

So your coverage is going to be "at their mercy." whether they decide to help you out or not. They will probably look at how long you've been a member, previous driving record, how much you pay them. To see if it would benefit them for you to remain under their coverage. If they think you are too much of a risk they will probably pull the "you violated" line and just walk away.

There's really no way to tell.

well T...... first off i wanna say sorry for your loss, cause if you love your 8 as much as i love mine i'd be maDD pissed yo!!! second... dude that was a good deed you did by looking out for everyone else and not just thinking about yourself.. and third..... unfortunatly bro i hate to say this... but im an agent for farmers insurance and the guy who who posted this above me kudos to him because i couldnt of said it better myself.. once again im sorry to hear about your loss man i hope everything ends up working out for ya !!

I'm telling ya, the insurance policy says, and this is what confuses me, that if I installed a part for use on the highway, then it is legal. If it was installed for use on the track, then it is illegal. Makes no sense does it? However, I never actually used the nos. If I tell the adjuster, "I installed it to make my car go faster on the highway, I'm covered." If I say, "I installed it so i could take the car to a track and race it," I'm not. They are more concerned with third parties like mazda

nitrous hooked up to the car during the accident/cop inspection is illegal

however, in CA at least, if you do not have any nitrous oxide in the tank ( empty tank) then it is legal.

if the line isnt hooked to the engine in some way, its legal

yupp. adjuster confirmed it today. one look at it and she said its totalled. now I have to find receipts on all the aftermarket purchases I made( a lot) and that should add to the value of the car for the check i'll get.

I don't understand the argument of whether or not insurance would cover something like this?... Why wouldn't it? This is one of many instances that is exactly why you pay a monthly premium for coverage.

It's not as if he intentionally went and torched the car... then making a claim would be insurance fraud...

Sucks to lose the ride, no matter what you drive (but especially the 8). Hopefully you have good coverage and you don't suffer too much out of pocket expense other than what has gone into your car all ready. You definitely won't see full reimbursement for aftermarket modifications but every little bit counts.

For a stock car.

Ok, the 180rwhp stock rx8 would cost lets say $50 a month to insure, it meets all the safety standards for everything, it has been through federal inspections from the ground up.

Now lets say that I added a turbo.

Now its a 350rwhp car. Do you think it would be logical for a car twice as fast to cost the same to insure?

Now lets say that I removed all the airbags from this 350rwhp rx8, because they interfered with my new seats and harnesses.

This is what I said earlier, if you modify in any way, it changes the risk profile of the car, you will likely have a higher insurance rate if they knew your car was fast.

As for the "highway" and "track" clause. A highway modification is one to enhance highway driving, a short shifter, window tint, a body kit.

A "track" mod is one that enhances performance in any way, "nitrous, turbo, supercharger"

I'm not saying they won't cover you. I'm saying that its totally up to them. That some guy is going to sit in front of your file, read your story, and decide whether he wants to help you or not.

I mean, there are other types of insurance, you can get coverage for a modified car, hell you can even get coverage for your track car where they pay if you hit the wall or something.

But, the standard premium you pay every month is just for the standard stock car.
