Dedicated to everyone who will "never drive a rotary again!"…

So…think Mazda's using us as guinea pigs for their "not ready for prime time" rotary engine??? Enjoy!

You mean... the 8 isn't the only car to ever have engine problems? Blasphemy!

I hope you brought your flame suit. The haters aren't going to like this.

Having been following some of those issues posted above, I suggest you read those links and do some follow up yourself.
All cars have recalls and TSBs. None of the failures shown above even compare generally to the massive Mazda RX-8 engine recall. Its not even the same league.

Try again.

You could at least look at failures that had no owner-related issues (sludge?!?) like Hondas going up in flames after oil changes or something similar.
Or, look at vehicles in the same class like the massive suspension issues that the 350 has.
All of which pale in comparison to hundreds or thousands of replaced motors on the RX-8.

I love the car. I'll probably never sell it. The motor is not ready for prime time, especially if you live in the desert.

Talking dedicated to everyone who will never drive a rotary again.

I had my car for 2 yrs with no problems. It is true that I take care of it. I change my oil and filter every 2k miles. Every once in a while I floor it so I can hear that beep after 9k Rpm.

No. Look at the sign more closely. It is the worker that is bending over.
Once again, this is Greece.

One of the more interesting things is that from my 2.5RS days, it seems Subaru has quite a reputation for blowing head gaskets on their engines. However, if your head gasket blows, you get a new gasket and off you go, it doesn't sound as severe as getting a new engine. However, if your RX-8 seal wears out, which let's face it is pretty much an equivalent failure, you get a brand new engine. That just sounds more severe even though the problem is about the same. It seems Mazda is rather replacement happy with the engines. I'm not denying that there might be an issue with the Renesis having higher than average replacement numbers, but I think the numbers are overblown because Mazda seems to be replacing engines for any internal problem. There is simply no rebuilding at the dealership. This system would be better as I don't trust dealership techs to do anything correctly, but at the same time I'm not sure if I'd trust the convict that is doing the rebuilding for Renesis engines either.

Okay MazdaManiac, Im gonna start avoiding threads where you post cause you avatars are driving me crazy, I need to know how you get those!

Back on topic, Toyota has had recalls before on the 6th gen celica's they had a recall cause the cruise control would accelerate by themselves. Also I had a 7th gen Celica and the transmission burned out (I had an Auto)

?? yet with all of these problems there are owners of each vehicle type bitching & moaning & saying things like "I'll never get another [insert make] again!!"

imo - that was NY's point, hence the title.

how similar the actual problem & corporate response are to the 8 recall seems irrelevant.

What about manufacturers who don't recall their vehicles, but yet leave their vehicles on the road?

How about Chyrsler mini vans having a defective lock on the door which caused several childern to be killed.

How about the Jeep Cheerokees which drive in reverse when you put it in drive?

I have a feeling as soon as the warranty period runs out, you are going to see more rebuilding at the dealerships, or someone from this board will open their own private Renesis shop and do rebuilds and earn a zillion dollars. It sounds rediculous to replace the whole engine if the engine just needs a cleaning and seal replacements.

if you guys would just follow the fcking manual, your car would be just fine:

It says right there on page 125, two cups of whiskey before startup.

I had a 7th generation Celica GT-S and the Yamaha 2ZZ-GE had a big time reputation for blowing up. Mine was fine, but I only had the car for 25,000 miles. There's a SAE paper on the engine and apparently the oiling system was only designed to sustain 1g of lateral load. One can easily exceed 1g during transient turn-in.

So Celica GT-S, Impreza 2.5RS, and RX-8: the only sane conclusion is that apparently I like problem engines.
