Angry Depressing performance numbers

Ok 17.8 and 17.9 sec quarter mile for auto RX-8. I am depressed now... I probably can't even beat kia.

I am noticing how unresponsive or dead engine feels lately... I wonder if this is a sign of losing compression in the engine?

What is normal quarter mile time for auto ? If 17.8 second is NORMAL time for auto RX-8 I might think of getting a new car.

The auto is slow, but it shouldn't be that slow.

Having said all that, there is large difference between auto and manual RX-8.

Any auto owners took their car to track?

Should I have compression check to see if there is any loss of power due to blown engine?

Mazda 3 s were running 14 sec quarter mile... This is embarassing for flagship sports car even with the auto. I was expecting 16.8 sec for RX-8 with auto. I know that is no rocket but 18 sec quarter mile is way too slow for any standard.

I am gonna take my GTI to track this friday to make me feel better... sigh~

Probably could hit high 16s if you brake torqued

Why did you buy an auto if you planned on track use? Put 5 50 lbs bags of concrete in the trunk while you're at it.

A local automatic rx8 I heard about is running similar times. What do you expect? It's an AUTO and is a 4 port instead of a 6 port engine. Duh it will be slow, that's why you don't buy autos.

I love key lime pie, and the place on the corner with the best key lime pie is closed.

Thanks a lot.

Haha, i think this is the 1st drag times for an auto rx8. come on man, what do you expect, it probably took you forever to get to the powerband with that 4 speed trans, you were never in the powerband and this car lacks torque

This could explain things as well. WTF are you doing to your 8?

I have about 38k miles and car is awesome in everyday driving.

What's the quarter mile time for manual RX-8s? I want to test drive one to see if I feel like switching over to manual. It is pretty much set in stone that I won't waste my time taking AUTO RX-8 to the track.

Also, I didn't see single RX-8 at the track... Not even manual ones. I was the sole RX-8 and there were a lot of people out tonight. So I guess even manual RX-8 are not coming out to play. On the other hands, track was infested with SRT-4s... they are multiplying like a virus...

It's nice to see someone actually took an old automatic 8 to the strip. Considering it takes over 8 seconds to get to 60 in an automatic, you shouldn't be too surprised that it does the quarter in 17 - 18 seconds at all. Hopefully you made sure to use tiptronic mode so that you redlined at 7500 to squeeze every bit of power out of the 4 port, along with brake torqued launches. If you were looking for performance you should have bought stick.

The 2006 automatic should be available at dealerships in a month or so, and they've got a couple upgrades which should bring them to at least a 16 second quarter mile. Maybe you could swap to an 06 automatic since I would assume you're probably not willing to learn manual.

my old 93 automatic prelude Si did 16's quarter miles. Sorry but auto rx8 needs to die, i don't give a f#@k if you think it's better in heavy traffic or you got a broken left foot and can't get a manual. Get a better car with auto tranny... *cough* DSG *cough* GTI

the 6 speed will probably be a lot faster, its not about the hp, the gear ratios in the 4speed is just MESSED UP!, 7500rpm would still be considered a high-revving motor compared to pistons. Coupled with the 4speed = instant handicap.

I am curious to know when you shift outta 1st gear at 7500rpm, what rpm will you be at in 2nd... the auto has a really really short powerband.. the tranmission handicaped this car. I drove the auto 8 once, pushed it to 7000, and it was ........... slow...

Stock manual rx8 (NOT fully loaded) should run mid 14's.

The transmission isn't the only thing that handicapped the auto rx8. The fact it's a 4 port causes it to blow majorly also. A 6 port auto would still run 16's stock most likely, it's just the 4 port autos have a low power engine AND a shitty auto.
