From what I have seen throughout months of poring over this forum, Most of us have paid MSRP for the cars. What other charges do all of you expect to pay come arrival? Desination charge comes to mind, dealer prep.......any thoughts?

 

Luckily us in the UK pay an 'on the road' price, so no extra charges.

(on many new ars this is of course negotiable downward, but not on the 8).

O'course 'on the road' is on 4 months time.

 

i had to pay some processing fee, dunno it was cheap enough i didn't make a big deal out of it

 

Here in Canuk-ville, I am hit with quite a few 'extras', most under the guise of 'enviro' fees -
$925 Freight & PDI (includes a block heater (don't ask))
$105 extra for metallic paint, from Mazda.
$20 Tire enviro Tax, $5 each
$100 "You shouldn't have air conditioning" Tax
Course thats CanBucks, so $1150 is about $850 US ($750Euro?)

Most US dealerships charge a "processing fee" (a.k.a. "additional profit") ranging anywhere from $60 - $200, which is generally non-negotiable.

My dealership charges $995 "adjusted market value" on *ALL* new cars. I wasn't happy about it, but after I hear about some of the price gouging occuring elsewhere, it doesn't seem so bad.

 

The MSRP listed on the Mazda website includes destination charges. so, for instance, for $31,100 you should get a GT with destination charges included. Make sure your dealer doesn't try to tack on any more to that. My dealer's also got a $189 "processing/document" fee. Since my company charges one too (albeit only $99) I figure it's only fair just to go ahead and eat that charge.

If the dealer tries to tack anything else on, though, I'm not buying the car till they take it off.

edit: the MSRP on Mazda's website also includes dealer prep charges, so they shouldn't be adding those either.

On my work sheet the salesman written down "Sold for MSRP + fees (registration/license) + tax due at delivery" and signed it. So I guess destination charge is already included and there's no application fees or whatsoever.

 

I wouldn't say the fee is NON-negotiable, but it depends on your state. Some states regulate dealer "processing fees", so they would be non-negotiable. However, most states do not regulate it, and I say go on and negotiate it now, while you've got time, rather than negotiating it over the the hood of your new car Just do be sure to get anything in writing.

 

I heard license fee will raise in CA. Anyone knows how much it raise? How much is the license fee for rx8?

 

I guess what I *meant* to say is that most dealers are "non-budgeable" on their processing fees (i.e. you can try to negotiate, but you won't get anywhere with them). This is, plain and simple, additional profit for the dealer.

 

yes! starting october 1st. california licence fee will TRIPLE! i dont know how much the rx8 is yet, but since i am getting my rx8 anyday now im not too worried about it this year. next year though it will be worse. i think i paid about $180 last time for my truck so if i keep the truck next time it will be $540.00!!! something to keep in mind for the future...

 

My dealer tacked on additional 299.00 for "Dealer Prep" which is supposed to be included in MSRP.

I had Mazda smack 'em for trying to force me to get a "Road Guard" laminate sticker on the nose, so that fee could also be called the "quit tattle telling to Mazda" fee. I just want this car, so I'm gonna eat the Three Hunge. I have a feeling if I b*tch anymore, they'll tell me to find another dealer and I'd have to wait MORE.

 

Your registration fees are based on the age and value of your vehicle. I would estimate the current fee for the RX-8 to be between $300 and $400, so if the increase goes through, I'm expecting to pay between $900 and $1200. It will go down as years go by. Just another reason to sign the Davis recall petition NOW!!! Also, visit www.tommcclintock.com for more information on his efforts to block the fee increase (it is illegal afterall).
