Unhappy Diagnose this

sooo, i am running 4oz per tank of idemitsu premix, recently trying 89 octane (shell/chevron) no performance mod, running 10w30 oil (i know, i am changing to 0w30, bought wrong ones lol...) in houston traffic. today i was driving to drop my friends off at greyhound, and on the way back i hit the houston highway traffic.

(feed me light was on)

then the car started to feel weird @ around 3.5k rpm (lost of power) so i kept clutch feathered and running below that and hit the service road.

tried a couple shift and at 2, 3rd gears if i hit close to 3.5k i have this sudden lost of power, finally i tried to just gas through it on 3rd gear, WOT, when it hit the power loss, the rpm just dropped and dropped, i decided to stop trying, depress clutch, and the needle just dropped to 0, engine dead.

pulled over with flasher and into parking lot, open engine bay, wait 3 min prayed and start the car again, went to the nearest station , 4oz idemitsu, 93 octane.. now the car is pulling like normal.. what happened?

Was the gas level low? (under 1/3rd)

There have been fuel pump issues, with those symptoms....

Otherwise you may have just got a pint of rusty water with your gas (though this is rare these days)

If the actual 'low fuel' light was on, it was pobably just starvation - the tank has two sides, spirited cornering can slop all the fuel to the 'other' side.

Sounds like a gas problem....light on and hard on it......it will misfire and run in idiot mode till it stops misfiring....

Should be OK with more gas in it

oOoo.. so maybe i shoudn't let it drop to light anymore.. was doing it to make premixing easier... i do alot of decent cornering, but this happened on the highway, i must have slop the fuels over a mile or 2 before tat happened? o.O

I don't see how that would make premixing any easier. Is it for measuring the right oil/fuel ratio? The gas pump tells you how much fuel you put in...

If it keeps up, check your fuel pump. Premix has been known to clog them.

Why use 89 rather than 93??? When you really add it up its not that much more a month, like a few bucks...maybe $20 at most. Just not worth it IMO to downgrade on the gas. Just my opinion, dont take offense.

Yeah prob something in the car's computer saying not to allow u to suck every last drop of gas out of the tank when "beating" on it.....it's not good to let your tank get low bad on the fuel pump....i never let mine get below a 1/4 tank.....

When u put Premix it pulls ur AKI rating down, 4 oz is very little, so when u put 89 is like hmm u will have about 88.7 or so in ur gas.

u live in Texas so yes it will be hot so ... stick with 93.

When the light comes on there is almost a whole gallon left, how long did you drive with the light on?

When the light comes on there is about 10 litres left, way more than two gallons.

That's why I suspect a fuel pump - mine went with those same symptoms, it would bog down, go slower and slower until it just stopped. Like Swoope says, if you are in warranty get the dealer to order a new one.

....also when the yellow light is ON there is an ignition cut redline at (IIR) 100mph.

Well that means it is a 15.5 gallon tank. I guess I should have looked at my owners manual more closely. Thanks for in the info.

yo stealth, this may be off-topic but still related to the pre-mix issue. regarding your sig, are you being sarcastic or serious?

raizenguy -

Yeah, my sig is probably confusing - I've been a proponent of premixing some two-stroke oil in wankel fuel since about 1976, when i worked on my RX-3.

The quote below is from one of the many pre-mix discussions we have had over the years, the author's opinion (at that time) was we were all insane for suggesting such a thing. I should take it down, because the same guy still posts here regularly, and recently posted an opinion that "..........AMSOIL Saber Professional is the best pre-mix for everyday rotary use." I don't want to embarrass him, I appreciate the progress that the whole forum has made, we've come a long way down that particular path, the last few years.

I'm sure that the last two flashes Mazda put out, to increase oil injection, and the third and repositioned injector arrangements on the updated motors, have also contributed a lot to the belief that apex seals were always underlubricated.

The manual states that a person can run as low as 87 octane.

It says the side effect is there may be performance degredation.

If a person is premixing I wouldn't run 87.

why,

reading is learning. the owners manual has lots of good stuff in it!!!!!

and i dont think you will find the 2.5 yellow light in the manual.

that i figured out after tracking fuel mileage and running out of gas twice..

i really have a good feel for the yellow light.
