Different altitude

Good day, I bought a 2004 RX8 3 days before X-Mass, (Can say From: Riaan To: Riaan!!!!) best gift ever.
The RX came from Cape Town to Kld were I am staying, the difference in altitude is ± 1200m/720miles inheight.
If I start the RX it will turn the motor for about 3 sec and then she fires up, could the altitude play a roll?
I am going to replace the spark plugs next week

I will appreciate any comments

Mine takes less than a second. I rev the engine to 3k before every shut off and turn it off before the revs fall below 2k. When I don't do this, it takes longer to crank. Try it, see if it affects your crank time.

Usually takes about 1 second for me. At least once a week it cranks for maybe 3 seconds before start up.

P.S Read the Stickys and use the search function and you'll be all set.

Thanks for the comments, I will try the rev before I shut down.
Even if it will take 10sec, it is still a rewarding vechile to drive!!!!!!!!!!!
Every time that I take the RX8 for a drive I received positive comments.
What I pay for it and what I got makes this an investment, ads joy and quality to life!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Holy crap. Better look at that tune! (Or your compression.)
Even on the coldest starts, it shouldn't take more than 3 or 4 revs.

Since it is an 04 check if you have the upgraded starter. Mine needs a few seconds to start as well. The previous owner never did the recall for the upgraded starter(( I am planning to get the upgraded starter soon. People say here that it makes a big difference.

Welcome to the club and enjoy your car!

im running the stock tune right now. the cobb tune makes my afrs crazy and of course, i never sent you the data you needed. haha.

and its the battery. im still on the original battery. at 5 years, i think the battery has definitely seen its life. i didnt drive the car for a week (due to 2 feet of snow) and the car didnt start at all.

heh.

i'll be getting a new battery before the semester starts.

Check out this thread. It has all the old and new TSBs. Perhaps some apply to you some not (do not know what's the deal with mazda in Africa). In the states mazda has issued extended engine warranty (100,000 miles or 8 years). So some of the TSBs are still applicable due to this warranty.

Unfortunately I can't find the recall about the starter. Do some search in the forum (upgraded starter) and I am sure you will find something.

The on-board computer should automatically compensate for changes in air density (altitude changes), which is to say that it will adjust the fuel mixture to the proper air/fuel ratio (among other things).

That should not affect the way your car starts but the way it operates after you start it. When I changed my battery for example I had to drive the car 3-4 cycles so the computer figures out the ratios again. After doing the cycles (start the car, drive a bit, turn off the car=1 cycle) the car came back to normal.
