Digital Speedometer?

Digital Speedometer?
Do you like the digital speedomoter (LED numbers) over the anolog (clock arm type) guage in the RX-8? Did you get used to it?
The RX-8 isn't my first car with a digital only speedometer, and I like it. Did you not like it at first, and get used to it? or did you like it at first, and decide that you didn't like it?

It's growing on me. (Though some might say that warts do that, too.)
I still find it distracting at times - in my peripheral vision it can sometimes seem like a warning light coming on, particularly at night - but I'm warming to it.

Before I ever drove the car I didn't like the idea of a digital speedo. I'd never had one before and just figured it would be hard to get used to.
After test driving, I knew it wouldn't be a problem. I actually like it now because I feel like I know exactly how fast I'm going (of course, it could be a bit off like any other speedo, but I digress), rather than guessing if I'm going 63 or 64 mph.
Now, I'm totally used to it and like it quite a bit. I also find that it makes me focus more on the tach, and I can pretty much tell about how fast I'm going, based on what gear I'm in and what the tach is saying. Cool.

Not only do I love it, but after 2500 miles, on the rare occasion when driving my wife's SUV I forget to look at the speedo. I drove all the way to Wal-Mart one night before I realized that I never "read" the speedo once! So used to having my speed right there in my periphery.

Just ask Michael, Ralf, or Juan Pablo. All major racing series (except Nascar who still uses carbureators) use digital speedos, tach, and virtually every other guage. I hated them on the Rivieras in the 80s and the 84 vette, I have grown to love them over the years especially with speedchannel's in car views. My dad's Town car has full digital guages and I wish I could get them on my X5. And BTW, why can't I get a friggin amp guage anymore it saved me a major breakdown on my old Park Ave.

I'm still not sure since my last three cars were analog and the last car that I drove that had a digital was my friends and it just didn't seem right since I'm use to just checking with my peripheral vision and seeing what my speed is. Plus it gives me that weird kit vibe like it'll speak out to me while I'm speed or something. Its not as bad as an ompa lompa vibe but still it doesn't feel right too night riderisc. Although the turbo boost and bullet proof thing would come in handy. :D

I had the same problem as eccles, at first... I could sense the flash of the digits changing as I accelerated and it was distracting. I'm used to it now.
But you know what I love about the digital speedo? Your passenger can't see how fast you're going! :D

I really like the digital. I'm over 6 ft and prefer the steering wheel tilted very low in virtually all cars I drive--which usually means blocked upper numbers on a speedometer or tach. With the speedometer low on the 8, I can always see the speed, and with it positioned to the right, I can see it even with my left hand at 12 o'clock during right-hand shifts. As for losing a sense of acceleration, the tach performs that just fine.

I have never had a digital speedo before, and argued for the advantages of analog speedos on another thread. After having had my car for 5 days now, I've warmed up to the digital speedo, however. In fact, I'd even say I like it.
In the 8, I find I mostly rely on my analog tach. From time to time I'll peek at the speedo, usually to find I'm going a bit faster than I had expected.

triple digits
...there is one time that your peripheral vision knows how fast you are going.
...that's when suddenly the display becomes "fatter"...I know exactly how fast I'm going. And it's so quiet too.
This car cruises so easy; I love it. It seems like all other cars are in a time warp and cannot react or even begin to live the milliseconds of enthusiasum the RX-8 expresses.
