Digital Speedometer, does it bug you?
#3
i like it-especially in conjunction with the cruise control. you can bump it up in 1 mph increments. for more answers to your question scroll down to the bottom of this page and read the threads listed. it's a neet new feature of the foum that doesn't even require you to use the search function.

Me too!
Speedo appears to be 3 mph under actual speed.
I test mine every morning on the freeway with one of those radar reader boards they put in construction zones and consistently 3 miles under.
I believe there are threads on this matter

I like the fact that my wife can't see how fast i'm going from the passenger side. :-) The 8 handles speed so much better(than her Accord) that she really doesn't know the difference. I am good most of the time, but I do like to cut up on occasion.

It's one of my favorite feature on the car. Big RPM gauge w/ digital speedometer. It's a beautiful thing.
I tend to keep track of my RPM more than my actual speed, unless I am on the highway.

I really don't care for the digital speedometer. I was at the carwash and a guy asked how fast does the car go? I stated that I had no clue since the speedometer was digital. OK so shoot me, I don't even go over the speed limit! So how fast does it go?

from what I've read here 148 mph, but you do realize that the speedometer has nothing to do with how fast a car can go.
I like it, even though it's a bit optimistic (3mph), especially since the passenger has to ask how fast we are going. When it breaks 100mph I can usually catch it with my peripheral vision since it gets brighter down there.

I like mine because it works. My other Vehicle is a 99 Ford Ranger and one day all of the guages stopped working. I know its probably a disconnected drive cable, but i never bothered fixing it. So, when I drive the truck I never know how fast I am going or how much fuel is in the tank. Also the Odometer has read the same miles the last two years.

It bugged me on the test drive - it doesn't now. It does make it harder to judge how hard you are braking however - there's something more satisfying about the needle coming down when shedding speed.
You guys with your cruise control... it's such a sprinter I rarely drive at the same speed for more than a couple of miles so I didn't bother with the option. If you want to cruise, buy a 350!

I don't think I could ever own a car with an anolog speedometer. For those of you that don't like it, were you NOT paying attention during your research or test drive? lol. Threads like these kill me, people complaining or calling negative attention to one of the many unique features of this amazing car. I really don't get it. I imagine some people here would be happier with more convetional features, like those found on a G35 or 350Z. I for one am VERY pleased with my RX-8, I researched it WAY before I bought it, and took several on test drives as well. I also read every thread on this board for 6 months prior to purchase, perhaps some should have done the same.

148mph on MT. (electronically limited) Assuming by the torque curve, it would make 158-159 w/o the limiter.
They're both geared around 175mph at redline in last gear.
Hope that helps.
