Disappointed with your 8???

I HATE SPEEDBUMPS!
I love my 8. I wouldn't trade it with anything else. Just take care of it, even though it has some issues like flooding, it's still a reliable car to own if you just take care of it.

I have also been very pleased with my RX-8. I am a member of the new engine club which was replaced for free so in my book it doesnt really count as a problem where Mazda paid for it. An important thing to remember is most people dont drive the 8 like they do a honda or Toyota. I redline the 8 almost everytime I drive it where I wouldnt feel comfortable doing that in another car. Good luck with your next purchase.

Sell your 8. Bye.
125,000 miles on my 04'. I have replaced many things and had many things break. But she is still sexy as hell and I love her to death. And if you spent 5k replacing those things then that is your dumbass fault. I put 88k on my my Mazdaspeed protege and I never did anything other than normal maintenance. And paint has never been an issue with Mazda.
My paint still looks goo after 125,000 miles and 7 Texas summers.
I still love my old girl![Smilie](https://www.rx8club.com/images/smilies/smile.gif)

I am not disappointed in my 8. I spent $12K on a sports car with similar HP numbers as a car in the 20-25K range. I expect small problems to arise also with 60K miles on the clock.
I do have to say that it does worry me the number of horror stories and engine replacements I have read about on this site.
I think if you bought this car, as I did, as your only car, that was probably a mistake. This should be a car that is taken out on weekends and driven for fun. If I had the option I would not have bought this car as my everyday driver, but I can blame no one for that but myself for not doing the proper research before purchase.
Fyi- I bought my car 1 yr ago. Its an 05 and had 52K miles at the time. Since then I have had to replace (coils, plugs, wires, clutch pedal, and ssv). Total service cost since bought- $1400. This car is not cheap to own or maintain. Gas mileage sucks and service at dealer is not cheap. Dealer service was generally done to maintain records in case of a needed engine replacement.
In conclusion, this makes a great sports car for a reasonable purchase price. If you buy a sports car with over 50K miles for less than 15K you should expect to make some repairs to keep it running strong. If you cant financially make it work, you should be driving something else.

Bought my 8 new, and it's my daily driver. I did my research. It got a "Recommended" from Consumer Reports. How much safer can you possibly be?

Good points ken. Not the worst choice, but not the best either. There are compromises that must be made with all DD's.
My point basically was that if you are looking for a car to be a DD and get great gas mileage and be cheap to maintain, buy something like a honda fit.
If you want something that screams to 9K rpm and has the same horsepower numbers as cars that cost much more, the 8 is a great option. Its all about perspective.

mazda did issue a recall lol!!!
The backing on some of the horror stories people wont tell you is they have poor maintenance practices. Instead of finding that vacuum leak, or getting the check engine light read they wait until its a nuisance. Even worse some people wait until the car starts running. They don't talk about how they change oil every 5K miles and don't put more in until the low oil light comes on. They don't tell you how they don't have good practice at keeping it running. They just expect it to run without having to fix it.

Don't get me wrong, I knew it was a second hand car when I bought it and I expected certain repairs would have been necessary at some point. I understood buying it that it had 65K kilometers on it. And it wouldn't be perfect, but I found that i ended up with all the repairs. That's the depressing part!!! It seems like to old owner didn't address any of the issues. Whoever had this car prior to me, I don't think put any any of the proper effort into, resulting with me ending up with the hassles of repair and replacement.
I suspect I ended up with a combination of a slight lemon and previous buyers neglect and it's left me questioning Mazda dependability and it's a shame because we really like the CX-7 and were considering trading in the 3 for it.
BTW- let me just clear up, the 3 hasn't had nearly the problems of the 8. The 3 runs ok, and I don't suspect any real mechanical issues with it, its the one who's paint is fading (but in all fairness, it's the wife's car though and if I don't wash her car, it rarely gets done so...) and it's rattling more than we'd like for a car with 50K Kilometers on it. So these small issues coupled with the hassles I've had with my 8 are leaving us questioning Mazda's.
Maybe I'm being picky it's just because every car I've owned, I've sold them in the same if not better condition than I bought them. I maintain my cars impecabbly, always cleaned and serviced consistenly. The way I look at it, you're spending thousands of dollars on these things...why would you let them just go. Doesn't make sense to me why I would spend all that money on somehting just to let it fall apart. I can't do that...it has to be perfect. And this one, I'm constantly pumping money into it, and it's still not perfect. It seems I fix one thing and something new comes up. So I'm simply frustrated with it, and fed up.
We're all entitled to our opinions, and I valued all the information I received from this site over the past couple of years. I thank all of you for all your input in this forum.
It's with a heavy heart that I say fairwell to my RX-8 and this forum, even with the hassles I've had and the number of times I've had to bring it to the garage...my 8 and I have had some good drives!
Good luck to all of you and your RX-8's. I wish you all an awesome experience with yours, but I still recommend new owners, beware...check for maintenance records before buying. You might be getting into more than you can handle.
Take care!!!

crack can be fixed, but going to have to remove the rear bumper, exhaust, right rear wheel, and the inner covers of the trunk and the passenger side light to do it right. i was qouted $1200 to get it done by a local body shop and i know the guy, its more labor than any thing else... but the dealer keeps sending me to voice mail when i want to talk to the guy so i figured maybe bbb would put a bug in there ****, if not, i'll just file with the head guy.
@MS Addict
i found it by removing the trunk panels to do the tail light fix and found it that way, if it wasnt for the water from the gasket not doing its job on the tail light i would have never found it.
i love the car, just dont like being taken and finding hidden things like this, brakes, tires and such no biggy but a crack in the chassis, someones going to fix it and its not me.
