Disappointment!
Hey guys, I'm new here but have been silently lurking these forums for some time now I want to explain my situation-
Basically, I have wanted to purchase an rx8 for awhile now and I finally got serious a couple months ago.
3 weeks ago, I found one I really like in L.A. (I live roughly 2 hours away) I contacted the dealer and had back and forth discussions for 2 weeks.
Last saturday, he gave me a call, and we worked out a deal. He said to come down the following saturday, as the car would be "ready" friday afternoon.
At this point I'm excited, not only have I been waiting for this car a long time, getting a new toy in general is always fun. I had hoped to come down sooner than Saturday, being the impatient guy I am, but I said OK and waited.
Videos, forum posts, and all the usual "research" that comes from excitement before a purchase happened this last week.
All the arrangements had been made for Saturday, and I was really looking forward to it. I had taken off work, rented a car that I could drop off near the dealer in LA so I can drive the 8 back, etc. etc. and it had become quite a big deal in my mind
Friday afternoon, the dealer calls at 5 PM and says the car is not "ready" and would not be until the following week, possibly later. Perhaps they found something in the 125 point inspection? I'm not sure, and he did not elaborate. As you can imagine, I was extremely disappointed, and still am. Nothing much I can do, and it is out of the guys hands as the car is at a separate shop where they do whatever they do.
Still looking forward to it, anxious now more than ever. Will definitely post pics when I get the car, and hope to learn more from this forum than it has already taught me. Thank you guys!

That sounds weird to me. A dealer making you wait? It's usually the other way around, as dealers want to make the sale ASAP.
If you really want that specific car, put pressure on them saying "well, you don't seem to want to sell me the car. I'm buying elsewhere."
That should speed up the process

Welcome to the forum.... I think if they are doing work on the car then it's worth the wait. You really don't want to get a car that has problems the day you get it. I bought mine with a 50:50 3 month warranty (I think) its not going to be worth much to you if you have to drive 4 hours to get any work done.
Good luck with the new car, I love mine.

Voids warranties
If they've already made you wait for 2 weeks and now want you to wait another, sounds like they are either trying to work out a major problem, or possibly putting a new engine in. I would definitely press the issue of "what are you doing to the car" I personally wouldn't consider it unless you know exactly what they have done to it for the past 3 weeks.

Lol they probably flooded the engine. I know when I went to buy mine I bought it at a Honda dealership they flooded it right in front of me. They kept constantly turning the engine on and off every couple of minutes and it finally flooded and the salesman was really embarrased and said he would have to have one of the mechanics look at it. I told him no need to cause I will fix it right here and I did lol. Just remember that the average person knows nothing about these engines and most people probably think these cars have piston engines. I know my salesman did.

^^ My salesman tried to tell me the RX-8 had the smallest production 1.8 V6 ... there was a Miata parked on the lot nearby. I had to politely tell him that he had gotten the Miata and the 8 mixed up. He looked at me ... and admitted to my face, "You know more about this car than I do." I bought my 8 off the used lot of a GMC dealership. It was the second 8 they had sold in 3 months, the last one being a BB, sold to someone in another county. I am very surprised they didn't flood it, but I DO know it was never driven properly.

Thanks for the replies guys. Will definitely call the dealer and see what's wrong. In the meantime, no use to let the day and my rental car go to waste, I'll head down to LA, as there are a couple more promising looking ones. If anything, it'll be fun looking
