Cool Do I need to take my car in for a recall?

i just leased an 06 AT 8 and want to know how I would know whether or not all the recall updates have been completed? The sales guys pretty much don't know their heads from their asses! The sales manager however said that I needed to bring it back in for service before 600 miles. He said they'd check the spark plugs, seals and detail the car for me. Is this standard operating procedure?

That sounds like the recall work he described... sounds like you got the car new, so that might be their policy for new models they sell? That's just my guess so I wouldnt quote me

go to mazdausa.com and sign up under owners. that will tell you ifd you need recall work done. you could also call 1-800-222-5500 and ask them. be prepared with your VIN handy

My '06 had the recall sticker on the door jamb and the hood. It was performed before I picked the car up....

Isn't it against federal law to sell or lease a car with outstanding recalls?

I just got off the phone with the dealership and they told me that it was not a recall check. They told me that it was a normal Quality Control check they do for RX-8's within 600 miles since sometimes those cars sit in the lot for a long time or are moved from one end of the lot to the other.

They said they would change the Sp. Plugs and perform some 'tests'. Anyone else heard of this?

Just registered my vehicle with MazdaUSA and it said that there are no current recalls for my car. My car was built in March of 2006.

Standard procedure for a new 8. Good luck with it!

Well, I'm assuming they do the recall, but on a new engine there wouldnt be any damage and it shouldnt fail the vacuum test I'd assume... So they probably did the reflash and out of courtesy are offering you to take your car in to make sure it's all still fine after a while of driving it... Again, just my guess.

Yeah, but the plugs seem fishy to me. They are supposed to be changed during PDI (pre-delivery inspection that happens after you buy the car and before you take delivery) or during the recall. Doing it at 600 miles isn't standard procedure.

yeah, I'm just saying that out of courtesy, since they just recently did that recall, the might be offering to check up to make sure that anything the recall covers is alright still, even if they already did the recall before sales.

The Sales manager said they would've done the QC check had I bought it during the week. Since I bought late Saturday afternoon, he said I would have to bring it back in before the car hit 600 miles. He said this is S.O.P. for Rx8's.

It really isn't a big deal since I have to taken it in anyway for them to install my rear spoiler and tints.

My dealer had changed mine before p/u b/c they had it brought in from another dealership. Otherwise they said they do the plug change/checkup after the first few hundred miles. Which is why I said it's standard procedure. Seems like it would be easier to just do b4 sending the new 8 off the lot, but, either way saying it seems "fishy" is a bit much.
