It just demands a more skillful driver to keep the revs up to extract the power that it produces. Those that keep complaining that its torqueless below 6000rpm are right but had no idea how to really drive a high rpm NA machine. The 8 produces a similar power band rpm range, just merely higher up in the rpm ranges in comparison with cars like the Z.

I'm still baffled by how people can call a car thats faster than 85% of the cars out there slow? Just doesnt make any sense to me. I think the big problem is the Torque. The 8 may "feel" slow to alot but its really not.

to me its starts off a bit slow....but in the Freeway i am driving 95 mph and my wife thinks we are going 65..its that smooth! in my old car, going 95 felt like we were trying to break the sound barrier the car was shaking so much

HELL NO! I pulled 10 car lengths ahead of a Ferrari Enzo!!!!! hahaa

but seriously, clearly all of us know that its slow getting off straight line, but I still think its one of the quickest cars and it handles beautifully!!! so still the answer is no!

0-100km/hr in under 7 sec is definately not slow - its just not as fast as a car that looks this good should be .
I'm aiming to do some N/A mods that should make it about the same as a 350z . It won't take a whole lot but I think the z's acceleration is the benchmark for the 8 & i'll be happy if i achieve it .

In a straight line I say it is incredibly slow. Outside of my geo slowest car I own. When a B18c motor is faster your slow lol. But most of us do not buy Mazda’s to go straight. So on a twisty type track or a real road cores I would say it is not that slow outside of its corner exit pickup and uphill battles.

It just needs some boost. All non turbo 13b's are lawnmowers.

it's all relative depending on what you think fast is. hell if you've ever been to an autocross, then you know a miata (with few mods if any) will run circles around 80% of the other cars out there - faster than an 8, 350z, corvettes (not all but most), or anything you think should be fast - yet it's not really a fast car. on the street, or higher speed track it's a slightly different story.

straight line speed is overrated. 0-60 times don't do any good if you can't corner. it's about proper balence. again at an autocross i watch crazy horsepower/torquey cars zoom on down the straight, but they crawl through the corners and get owned by more balenced cars.

the 8 takes a bit more technique to be fast in it though. if you want to be fast in it, you've got to keep those revs up. i guess it may depend on what you were used to driving before you bought the 8. i had an old civic that was really underpowered, so i always had to work on not losing my speed. it also had a limited supply of torque, so it was easier for me to make the transition. i don't know, but i'll stop rambling now. hope something i said helps.

I consider MOST cars slow in comparison to riding sportbikes. That's not to say that they are slow, especially my 8, but after I've gone 160+ on my motorcycle (on a track that is), driving seems a lot more anemic. Although I do still have fun pitching the back out of my 8 on occasion.

However, my boss picked up a 2005 Viper recently, and offered to let me drive it. I refused since it was new to him and I didn't want him to see me drive that thing sideways. One day though, I'm gonna just ask to borrow his keys (he's cool enough and would let me) and see if it will change my mind about cars and speed.
