Do You Feel Lucky?????
I saw this RX-8 several months ago when I went to a dinner at Mystic Lake casino. I thought how nice it would be to win one so I could drive a different color when I wanted to :p. I don't enjoy gambling so I just walked on by.
Then on New Years Eve a friend gave us tickets to a banquet and concert at the same casino, as I walked through the casino floor to get to the banquet hall I was shocked to see the same Red 8, still sitting there, NO WON HAD ONE IT!
I was told that this is suprising because normally the car on this stand is won with in a month or two and normally it is a POS, although the odds are the same. Video poker, grand prize is max bet Royal Flush and you win, seems impossible but with the machines surrounding the car being played 24/7 it happens often, so why wasn't this one won? HMMMMMMMMMMM
And yes this time I had a camera, 2 are from a camera 1 is from a cellcam, and yes I dropped $5 trying to win it this time :o

It's to bait poor suckers into dumping more moola into the machines! ha ha. Be nice to have another rx8 though!
I should drop by LV one of these days cuz a black 8 would be nice beside my blue.

The odds are better than I thought.
Odds for a royal flush are 1 in 40,000 hands.
It typically takes about 80 hours of play at a casino to reach those 40,000 hands, which could range from 2 weeks or 2 months depending on how often and how long you play each session.
So if you drop a buck a pull, the casino will make out ok.

I think if someone won every 2 months, it would be a huge pain in the *** to take a car out and give it to the winner. They might not even give that exact car. Imagine all the lost revenue removing the machines to make way for the car. They stand to lose much more than $30k for each car.

If you follow your logic, you say that at some point in that 40,000 hands you're sure to get a Royal Flush. But that's not so at all.
Your chances of getting a Royal Flush are one in 40,000. Period. Doesn't matter what happened on the last hand or the last 39,999 hands. Your odds never improve.
Now that all said, statistical distribution theory holds that the more you play, the more likely you will win that Royal Flush. I agree with that theory in lower odds hands, as the statistical distribution of them will more or less bear out the odds of winning them.
But in order to get a meaningful statistical distribution on something like 1 in 40,000, you would need to play at least 20x the "1 in" number (if I'm remembering my classes right on statistical margins of error in research) to get anything that begins to be statistically meaningful. Otherwise, it's just all the same. Your odds of winnng that car, whether it's the only dollar you play or the 40,000th dollar you've played are 1 in 40,000.
Next issue: Because it's a bigass deal to move one of those cars in and out of a casino, most of those deals don't actually award the car on display but instead the casinos have identical twins housed elsewhere, ready to deliver. One of my neighbors won a C6 Corvette. They gave him an identical car to the one on display - it was gassed up, shined up and ready to drive, waiting at the valet parking stand, less than a half-hour after he pulled the lever. I.E., "it's now your nickel to park this thing. Figure it out."
He had to cancel his plane trip back to Chicago and drive it home. Nice car.

if you look at the 'rear picture' there aren't any machine where I was standing when I took the picture with my cellphone...those machines are actually on wheels and can be rolled out in a matter of seconds
then two tracks that lay under the stand are pulled out and positioned on the stand, the car is then slowly rolled out backwards...there is a small pathway where I was standing too that leads to multiple exit doors...4 of which hinge out together making a large opening for a car or even a large SUV (probably used to bring in new machines as well)
seriously it takes under 20 minutes maybe even quicker...they have it down to a science as there are two car displays in this casino, from what I'm told the car up there is the one you actually win, as you drive it from the casino after you win (although in this weather you'd crash it on the way home, winter tires are not part of the package :p)
This is one of the largest casinos in the Midwest but that doesn't really mean much compared to Vegas casinos...these cars are actually tagged with a sticker from the dealer and the dealers are local....but they don't have multiple cars to dole out, they put a new one in and it is different everytime (a GMC envoy was up there before)

Thanks for the info. That makes sense now not knowing anything about the casino business. I was actually thinking those big AC or LV casinos. It just looks a lot more congested than it really is.

I merely stated the odds.

just the lights/noises/etc. will give you aneurysm it's crazy in there! :p
I can't take it...fortunately I don't gamble...oh and plus the smoke in there is so heavy your eyes burn and your clothing stinks, I feel bad for the people working there but they make great money for no college experience needed and they is transportation to the job site from the Twin Cities for free

I do promotions like this in my business, and I'm betting the casino has about $1,000 into this car. They probably brought an insurance policy against it being won... and if it is won the insurance company writes a check to a selected car dealer. I insured a Harley Davidson for a golf scramble against a hole in one and it cost $375. It was a $12,000 bike.
