Do you give a crap, how fast is the RX8?
#6
Cleary you do since you started a poll on it, as do all the people that regularly talk about how much they don't care about the RX-8 being slow. So, to all those people that voted no... If I were to ofer you 30 extra whp for free with no strings attached you'd turn me down, right? Or I were to detune your car by about 50whp you wouldn't mind at all, right? See, you care, you just might be in denial about it

Yes, but it's not the most important. A faster strait line speed would be great, but the handling and styling is why I bought it now. I have too much fun running around in my 8, I feel like I'm always racing.

The question was about going fast in a straight line. If he asked " Should the 8 have 30 extra HP" I would have voted yes for only one reason. When coming out of turn 7 at Watkins Glen 30 extra HP whould be great. Otherwise on the street I never once felt the 8 was underpowered.

Of course I care, but the package was most suitable for me. Frankly I would of loved something like an Evo, good handling and power but insurance would of killed me.
The packages is really nice out of the Rx-8 but like almost any car enthusiast I would like a little more power all the time.

That is in the first post the the poll was worded " Do you really care how fast the 8 goes in a straight line" So we are both right, but I am 40 so most would say the older 8 owners are the ones that don't care. That back in the IROC / 5.0 GT days we were just as concered as the 20 something RX-8 owners are today.

Top speed is kind of interesting in that the 140 to 150 mph people talk about used to really be something. When I started driving, it took a Ferrari to do that. But when I bought my RX-8, I had no idea what the top speed was. I doubt if I'll ever find out first hand, so what does it matter. I did care about the 0-60 time. Not that I'd ever verify it myself, but as an indication that when I change lanes I'd be able to accelerate into holes ahead of me rather than drop into holes as they pass.

I could care less how fast it is. And I felt the same way about my Miata. Feel and handling is how I judge a sports car. I don't even use all of its power now—and considering when most people upshift, lots of others don't either. And they don't even realize it.

The one that you're scared shitless of going fast on? That's a good thing by the way, but lets hold off on that common comment that every rider makes until you don't poop your pants every time you do WOT

LOL! I'm getting very use to the bike actually. I haven't been driving my 8 that much anymore ever since I got my license for the bike. But it's still quite scary to ride it "too" fast.
Edit: Yeah, I haven't done WOT on my CBR yet... still scared of it

I see that our resident troll is back. Funny how these threads seem to pop up more now.
For me, the 8 feels real nice going through the gears, and I actually can enjoy some WOT for more than 2 sec. without great risk to licence or limb, unlike my litrebike. It's funny that those who's cars can clear a quarter mile .5 or even a full second quicker feel that they're in another universe of performance.
Of course, no shortage of guys here wouldn't say no to more power, but I'd say most 8 owners don't view the issue with the same importance as so many others, particularly the dickless types that need "faster" rather than "better."

I think 300 whp is where the car shines, but now we can add your 50 hp on, and give us the ideal 350
