Do you give a crap, how fast is the RX8?

Or drive on a highway, or want to merge in front of cars from a light, or want to pass someone, or...

The 8 slow if you are a lazy driver. I have no such trouble performing such maneuvers at all. Posts like these are the reason why North Americans are so in love with their automatics.

OK, Ike - that post is just not fair.
I drive on the highway all the time. The highway is where the RX-8 turns heads with it's exotic styling. The RX-8 looks like it's going 30mph faster than it really is, and those around it can't take their eyes off it long enough to notice the other sports cars around it, leaving it in their dust.
I never have problems with this. As soon as the car that was next to me at the light passes me, I can cut the 2nd guy off before he can blink! It's all about the 8's killer suspension!
Why bother? The 8 has the best stopping distance in it's class! Just tap those brakes and drop behind them so quickly, they'll be left wondering "how did that car disappear into the horizon [in my rearview] so quickly?!"
So as you can see, your arguments are clearly flawed. ;P

We've rehashed this argument about 10,000 times. The question posed is worthless because it's so inexact. The way I interpret it is "would you take 100 more hp with no affect on price or reliability". There are very few people that would turn that down. However, I can fully believe that there are a handful of people who don't want any more power because it would just lead them to getting into trouble.
If you interpret the question "do you care about how fast the car is in a straight line enough to complain incessantly" then it's a whole different story. Anyone who feels this way and purchased this car is a moron.
We all have priorities and some of us are willing to compromise on the speed front for style, handling, etc, etc. Just because the scales tipped one way or the other doesn't mean it's wrong or unreasonable to want a little more of the thing you compromised on. This is basic, basic stuff here. We don't need 47 million threads to discover this.

That was sarcasm aimed at all the people that get pissy if someone even implies that the RX-8 could use more HP. Also aimed at the people (usually the same people) that feel only RX-8 owners should be allowed to post here.

Since you like polls so much... Why don't you make a poll asking if RX-8 owners would take another 30 hp if their gas mileage and reliability were to stay the same? That'll be a true guage on how many people care about how fast their RX-8 is.

His implication is that more power would only be useful on the autobahn or at a dragstrip. I couldn't disagree more since I use all 300+whp in my car several times a day, it's quite fun! The number of times a day I use the full handling capabilities of my car is often 0.
