Engine Cover
To anyone that has taken their cover off and does not want it...i will take it, the 8 i bought did not come with one and i refuse to pay $100 for one at the dealership or $200 or whatever they are asking...thanks

I didn't even realize that this would be an issue. It's not as if the thermal rating of that kind of plastic will insulate the engine much, at speed. I leave it on more because I don't have anywhere to put the cover other than in the engine bay...

I would keep mine on, but i made the mistake of going for an oil change at one of the these 10 minute castrol oil places, when i got home i realized they never put the engine cover back on, went right back and apaarently everyone caught a bad case of amesia, one guy even had the ***** to tell me that the 8 doesnt come with an engine cover. CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT!!!!!!!

The manager is on vacation so i assume he knows nothing about this, but i did go back and noticed that they have a security camera that faces the shop. I guess the idiots that took it didn't realize that. Just waiting on the manager to come back on Monday. I'll hit him where it really hurts.....in the pocket

I prefer the look of the cover on, but there are good arguments for both sides.
Yay - Why would Mazda design it, and continue to use it if it didn't serve a purpose, or increase engine temps?
Nay - Why would Mazdaspeed design a strutbar that forces you to remove it?

I think the cover is simply there because the rotory engine is so puny looking and sits very low in the engine bay. I have popped the hood and removed the cover for a number of people and they all say "Where's the engine? Man that's small" Its just not an attractive looking engine (rotor heads may disagree) and the cover is almost purely cosmetic. There may or may not be some added cooling effects but that's not its intended purpose.

Size does matter...yes...but so does it's output, relatively.

I leave my cover on. It came with the car and I figure it's there for a reason. It's not that much trouble to move it when I need to add oil.

I always thought the cover was to protect the hood from engine heat but, after carefully surfing the net, the only reference I could find on it was from Car and Driver - who claimed that it was to dampen engine noise.
