This really depends on who drives it.
Some people are like let me drive it, people think that since our cars have a 9K redline and a 10K tach it'll be "fun" to abuse it and go past redline, drop clutch, and do stupid stuff like that. I will not let those people drive my car.
I will not let people who have barely driven a manual transmission drive my car.
I will not let people who dont know and/or don't respect cars drive my car.

But I will and have let other people drive it, good drivers, people who actually know how to drive and possess knowledge and respect for cars.
Like one of my friends who drove my car, drove it perfectly redlined it in 2nd gear and then he was in controll and knew what he was driving.

But who "test drives" my 8 really depends on who the person is

I do but only the ones that know how to drive stick. Why should I be greedy and keep all the fun to myself?!?! I even have to tell them to drive it hard and to redline it. That's probably why I let them drive it. They're all careful with the car and need some coaxing to push the car.

Sure, if they are your friends, you should trust your friends right? That said, I did tell my cousin to slow the F down when he was getting carried away.

Nope- nobody drives it but me. Only people that have had a hand at the wheel were the grease monkeys backing it out of the garage at the dealership, and my dad moving it about 5 feet up and back in his driveway.

I wouldn't even let my dad drive my 8, but if my brother is in town, I will let him drive it. Mine is a stick and where I am in Vancouver, not a lot of my friends know how to drive a stick ...

I'll let friends drive it, in fact I recently taught one of my friends how to drive manual on it.I'll let friends drive it if I know them well enough and know whether or not they'll drive carefully. One of my friends has wrecked every car she's ever had, at least 3 in her 5 years of driving. There's no way she's coming near it.

Expanding on this I even let them drive it like they stole it. You cant get a true feel for a sports car unless you give it a little something. I even let my bros drive my bike in my avatar, even though they had never ridden a motorcycle ( I was really nervous that day). Until they give me a reason not to trust them, I see no reason why I shouldnt.

I'll be teaching my GF MT over the next few weeks - somewhat selfishly, tho, since I'm pretty sure she'll enjoy autox, so more for me!!. I let both my brothers take it out once each. One of them is a crappy driver w/several totaled vehicles in his driving history, so I made sure I gave him the opportunity to drive when his wife was around - worked perfectly - she wanted to go, too so he couldn't do anything f8ckin stupid.

Dad still hasn't had the chance to take it out yet. I'm trying to work something out for him to get out by himself so he will really get to mess w/it a bit.

As for friends, prlly only one that I'd let drive it. Tho none of my friends have even bothered asking.

I know how I drive. Every time I start the car up, I think - 1 less drive till I need new tires. 1 less drive till I need new brakes. 1 less drive till I have to replace the clutch. And given the rate that I go through brakes and tires, I don't like driving other people's cars. And, if I'm driving someone else's car, I drive like a grandma. For the same reason, I don't like other people driving my car. I pretty much remember each time someone else has driven the car and usually for a valid reason. The only person I let drive it is my brother and that is only because he is also my mechanic. He takes it to the shop which is all of 3 blocks from the house. If he busts it, I'll put his IS300 in the lake.

This is what I experienced and why I asked this question. I'm still not sure if I'm asking for trouble when I suggest they "make it beep." The friends in question all drive stick. One of them is the most aggressive driver I've ever been with, but also the only friend I really feel comfortable with driving fast. His dad gave him his Bullit Mustang when he graduated (an excuse for his dad to get a Z6, Carrera GT and a Cayenne), and he hates how heavy and tank-like his mustang was. He had two cop cars cruising the local streets by the time we got it back to his driveway.

I've had my baby now almost a year now and only my mother once has driven her and just recently I've let my Gf drive her. Thing is she's my baby and everyone knows it. I've had friends, girls I've dated and girls I've flirted with want to drive her and all have been told "You'll drive it when a ring is around my finger!". The new gf got to drive her 'cause I trust her alot and I wanted to show that to her. Since then she's driven her 2 other times but babys the hell out of her.

If I know for a fact that my friends can drive stick, I don't see any reason why it would be an issue just to take it for a little spin. But, if they can't drive a stick, then there is no way I am going to go through that whole thing with them, although I have taught 2 or 3 of my friends to drive stick on my car.

No way. My friends were getting in and out of the car without opening the back door because they didn't realize there was a back door. They aren't always the brightest.

test drive

Only my 2 closest friends & the wife. (She can drive a stick & doesn't thrash it, even though she hasn't driven it yet) Also my 4 friends who have a Vette, an Evo, a 911, and a Cayman S since they are fellow enthusiasts who will let me drive theirs. It's always nice for a comparison drive.

My best Friend for the last 17 years drove it once. My wife refuses to drive it. Something about me divorcing her if something happened.

The guys at the dealership drove it because they would not let me drive it - I asked.

very few. The 8 is by no means an exotic, so those that i know are good drivers and experienced with a stick can give it a run. It's only a car.

However, everyone else seems to think i'm joking when i say no. lol. My main concern is the tranny/clutch...which sadly, many can't work smoothly for their life.

I let my wifes son drive it once, but it was just a short drive up the freeway, so he didn't get to have much fun. This past summer, I let her sisters husband drive it. He had a 240 Z years ago and talks about it all of the time. So I let him take it for a drive up and over a twisty mountain summit. He pushed it pretty hard (and made me nervous in the process), but the sheer look of joy and his incessant talking about it for the rest of the visit made it all worthwhile.

A guy I work with has been drooling over my car for almost 3 years now. I am going to let him make the same drive if the weather ever gets better. The only stipulation is that he has to buy me lunch on the other side of the mountain.

The only people I let drive my car are:
Me
My mom, when it needs to go to the shop
My dad, when it needs to go to the shop/have some fun
My brother and sister aint touchin the car. My bro doesnt know how to drive stick, go back to the damn auto. And my sister doesnt either, nor does she care. My brother thinks he is going to learn on my car in the summer......he can think what he wants.

As a general rule, no one drives my car(s) unless they've the capacity to buy it or pay for damages. Letting your friends, even worse--relatives, drive your car is like...sharing condoms!
