Don't use the backseats often (maybe for extra luggage to the airport). The true blessing for insurance purposes is the four doors.

I like having a little more space than a 2-seater roadster, but the RX-8 is probably a little bigger than I really need.

Ideally, something the size of the Kabura but with two fold-down rear seats instead of the 3+1 configuration -- in other words, basically a 2-seater with a little bit more room.

I've found the back seats to be quite handy at times. A year ago I hauled 5 sleeping bags, a huge load of food and suit cases on a 720 mile round trip during the Thanksgiving holiday. On weekends I use the space to haul my radio control airplanes and helicopters to the RC field. Just this morning, I used the back seats to haul 2 wine chillers home from Home Depot.

Yes, it is good for supplementary storage. Earlier this year when I was down in one of our wine regions, I managed to fit :

2 people
2 medium sized suitcases
58 bottles of wine

in the rx8. Some of the bottles were in "interesting" spots scattered throughout the car, I was I well pleased with the result.

Without the back seat, I could not have even considered buying the car.

Had to have a back seat for my Black Lab, who rides occasionally, and it's handy to throw my laptop and stuff back there instead of having to open the trunk (especially when it's raining ).

It works for kids too.

Might use the backseats < 5 times a year. Actually started out looking at little 2dr/2seat coupes and miata/solstice/sky. The 8 just seemed like a good idea to add in to the "possibles".
Then I saw an 8 up close and drove one. The look and drive sold me, and would have bought with just 2 seats - the extras are just a bonus.

The seat behind me is worthless since I'm 6'6 and no one could EVER sit back there. I use it every day to hold my laptop while I'm driving.

I don't use the other rear seat, but the fact that the 8 is not a 2 seater, makes it possible for me to own a rotary. (more room in the cab)

I use the backseats all the time...mainly because there is no room in my trunk (custom system)...the most I couldin the trunk is like a little jacket or something (nothing heavy on top of the amps)..

...so all my shopping bags (which tend to be a lot on the rare occassions I have money to go shopping) go in the backseat...

...the backseats are good for little cousins too...specifically ones that like to push all the buttons and irritate me while im driving.

I have had the 8 for a year and a half and I think I have had people in the back seat less than 6 times.

Fortuantly 4+4 was not the reason I bought my car.

I use the back seats to lower my car insurance rate.

I knew the RX-8 would impress the ladies, and I thought the back seat was a good idea for a little makeout session.

Seriously though, I like the company of 3 other passengers. Me and 1 passenger can get quiet and boring.
The extra space is good and the savings on insurance is a bonus!

He's a VERY smart dog He balances the laptop on the center console and reads the Labrador forum while I drive . It's a little tricky for him when I slide around corners though

I used to have an FD (2 seater) and every time I would head out with my buddies we had to leave it at home since we couldn't all fit. So the 2 seater sat when I really wanted to be driving it. Since then I've got to have something with 4 seats and a little trunk space. The 8 is perfect with the 4 seats. I don't need it but I want it. Plus if my wife and I have kids some day in the future there is no argument about having to give up my car.

+1 to the 'I use it for storage' argument. I don't often have my buddies in it, since when I see my buddies we are usually drinking.

Back seats were a requirement. Some semblance of 4 doors almost a requirement but I would have bent it for an M3. Where else would a 3 and 1 year old sit? Also took the baby seats out and had 3 other co-workers in the car with me. They were surprised at the amount of room there was in back. The 6 foot guy in the front passenger seat had his knees against the dash and his head touching the roof though. Good thing it was a short trip. Hell I’m 5’8” and only have like an inch or so of clearance.

Being in college, and having friends, I use the back seats quite often. That was the reason I did not get the other cars I was looking at. They all had two seats (350z/s2k). Completely impractical for me.

Really, backseat with the center console? Things could get crouded pretty fast...

I dislike driving 3-4 people, can always feel the weight slowing down the car :/
