Do you still give the friendly wave?
#26
Depends on the situation or mood for me.
If I am in a good mood I wave, nod or, rev.
If I am not in a good mood I don't do much because I have something on my mind or I just focus on driving.
If someone waves, revs, or gives the thumbs up it cheers me up and I acknowledge that I saw them by nodding, giving the thumbs up or raising my hand in a non-motion wave.
Not so sure about the high beam flash I see that as someone being upset and wants to pass, there is trouble ahead like a deer or speed trap or they think your high beams are on.

I see a yellow 04 on my way to work every morning, going the opposite way.. we flash our hazards at each other.. (where that came from, i dont know...)
More often than not, I get a wave back.. the day I got mine, there was another guy picking his up and ours are the same.. we give each other the thumbs up out the sunroof when we see each other.

I wave most of the time. About 1 out of 5 I'll get a ping-back.
Been doing that in special cars since the 70's. Times have changed. It used to be in the 70's all vette and Porsche owners waved to their fraternities. No longer.
In my 928 I can't ever recall one returning a freindly gesture.
My son has a 914 - he gets about 30% returns from other 914 owners, just about zero from the "real Porsche" crowd.
I get about 1 out of 10 from other CX7 owners, half of those being Soccer Mom's.

I currently have an 87 Rx7, and I give a wave/flash at any 8's or 7's I see. Some return it. Although with 8 owners it's harder to tell if they know why im flashing because 7/10 drivers dont know what the 8 really is lol.

I only got a thumbs up by a titanium grey in one and half yr of ownership so I gave the thumb back. I don't initiate the waves usually because it's too weird for some people.
Every time I see an 8 around, the drivers don't seem to care/see mine.
I remember pulling up side by side with a silver one, I looked at the guy, and he looked back but gave me a snare of disgust that I had an 8 also.

Here in SoCal it's hit or mis whether other RX-8 owners wave. Some give me a wave, flash of lights or even a verbal comment. Then there are some that look at me like I'm from another planet. Well that may be true. However, I even show my appreciation towards RX-7 owners. However, they are the worst! One flipped me off. Another one mouthed FU and others ignore me all together. So much for the Rotary unity.

The most consistant waves and smiles come from the hot rod and classic car groups - they kind of recognize it as one of their own!

i find that way too many house wives have our cars and dont really care for the enthusiasm/spirit behind our cars T_T. like saturday on the way to stone mountain (GA) i saw 2 rx8's and both were driven by middle aged women who didnt even look over or anything -.- i had a few friends in my car and they were freaking out cuz it was another rx8 and of course i go next to the other rx8 and wave but both times they just keep looking forward and dont even look over -.- now like on christmas eve i was able to find a middle aged man who both waved back and actually got ahead of me off the line cuz i underestimated him at the red light but he redlined it, and it was fun. people like him rejuvinate my spirit and want to wave to other rx8 drivers.

Remember back in the old days when we gave each other the friendly wave on the roads? It was almost like an unwritten law among us, that was (is) cool. Back then, 99% of time you would get a friendly wave back. Now, it is more like 50% or less. So, when do we stop? and why do we have to stop?

Gotta love those shy questions:
Cute cashier in store - "um, do you *really* own an RX-8?"
Me - "No, the jacket was much cheaper and I pick up plenty of chicks on the bus with just that."
Wait, we're collecting stupid comments in another thread, right? I'll dig it out.
Anyway, yeah, I still wave. Love it when they get it. Don't care when they don't.
