Do you tell your insurance when you lower your car?

I was just reading Autoweek and they wrote about how driver's in Canada are having their car insurance canceled after they had lowered their cars. In the USA it went on to say, while no big insurance company is canceling policy's based on this yet, you should let them know about any modifications done to your car because it could cause them to deny you coverage and void your policy if you don't in the event of an accident.

What to you think about dem apples?

are you that hottie in your avatar? That's the second picture of her you've had as an avatar.

And I would tell them, simply because that's not something easily hidden.

Any customizations that you do on your car please keep the receipts. If not, if and when it comes claim time, you will just get the average value for the vehicle. Take some photos and copy your receipts and drop it by your agents office. He won't mind keeping a copy in your client file. It is up to the policyholder to make a claim for what you have and be able to prove it. It's not that they don't trust you but believe it or not, some people inflate insurance claims.

I am as much that hottie in the pic as you are that cat with the watermelon on it's head. I have a winky. I am still searching for the ultimate avatar however.

Certain mods will cause insurance problems. For example, if you have non-DOT certified stainless steel brake lines and rear end someone and it is a bad accident, you will have big problems. I don't know how this applies to lowering (maybe a bad bottoming out causes an accident), but before calling the company you should ask your agent. Lots of times they can give you advice and not tell the company about your mods.
