Are you having MIAC (Marbels In A Can)problem with reg-87 or prem-91? Here is what I did to fix mine, it only took one minute to do!

When I bought my first rotary powered car in 1985 (an '85 RX-7), the dealer told me not to baby it. He said the RX-7 was a sports car and that it was designed to be driven in a sporting fashion. I agree, and that car never gave me an ounce of trouble.
Fast forward to 2004 and the day I bought my new RX-8. The folks at the same Mazda dealership didn't know the difference between the 4-port and 6-port engine and gave no advice as to how the car could be (or shouldn't be) driven. Not really a problem because I already know...

At my nearby dealership, a smaller one here locally, one of the service writers told me that the RX-8s that have the greatest engine troubles are those who's owners indicate they "baby it". He was quite clear in telling me that to keep the engine healthy, the driver needs to "get the RPMs up there". I informed him that I got my RPMs up once a day or so, he replied "that's fine". I've also had them tell me that upon changing my plugs, they looked great, and they commented "it looks like you keep the RPMs up...that's good."

I pick up the car today, hopefully... they told me it would be done sameday when I dropped it off last thursday(and everyday since).
Thanks for all the info, Ill show him the "Buzz It" thing and see what his face looks like then. Then perhaps I'll try to explain that not all the valves open till 7250RPM but it will probably be a lost cause.
BTW: In case any of you from north central florida were wondering the dealership is Duval Mazda in Gainesville

I guess you tend to lure around this forum a bit too much.. You start to believe things.. Rev is good, 8 is a slow car, 8 looks good, MT beats AT in every aspect, bad mpg, 8 looks good once again, slow, rev good, mpg, MT, looks good, cake, car, 8, slow, fast, looks, rev, mpgomg, wtf, wow, help, I, can't, stop, this,..
ok, I'm done.
But remember, don't trust anyone.. Except the forum members.

People might think I spend my whole day luring forums all over but in fact I spend about 1-2 hours (in total) a day on forums.
Muhahahaha ! Rev is bad, we should all keep our rev under 2.5K in all gears !!!!! BRAWwwwWWWWRRRRR !

Thats why you don't want that MIAC sound to happen it will damage your engine. Are you sure its the sound you are hearing. It's a loud metal on metal sound not a rattle like on a piston engine.

I think maybe the throttle body bypass didnt do the trick because it is so hot where I live that it didnt make that much of a difference. I used the screw drop in technique btw.

I had that too at one of the dealers. I went to a dealership near my work (I usually never go to this dealership) since it was close cuz I needed to ask something, and I asked the service manager there if revving occasionally to beep or redline is good. He says this "In my 27 years at Mazda, I have never heard of that"....he thinks it's bad....so yeah can the dude with the brochure from Mazda scan it on here, so we can all print a copy and show these dealers what Mazda HQ is saying.

This *Rev it once a day to keep the carbon away* thing is more like a thing in the Rotary Community than official Mazda's words.
IF you understand how a rotary works (not just yeah its triangle thinggy spining around), then you'll know why this sucker has to be rev every once in a while to keep it working.

I've got all that crap in my glove box. Send me a PM tomorrow morning to remind me and I'll see if that's in the bunch. If it is I'll scan & post if it's not already up.
But I will forget, especially if the thread isn't bumped.

ok...post thread count #17 (page 1) has some graphics. now besides the fact that the images could be thought of as some sort of body parts or chambers for babies lets think of them instead as images of the rx8 engine...not that I easy to understand it it is a side view and if so from what side.
so question is if I do take the time to get to the 7250 rpm mark then just how does a VDI (variable dynamic effect INTAKE system) come into place so far s getting rid of carbon build up. Was assuming the 7250 mark meant that two other exhaust ports would be opening.
Last, since I have a 6 port (07) what does that really mean? I have three input and three output 'holes'....
yes, I know...typing the questions in that manner open up a whole another set of options for replies.

Well firsts things first, I showed the tech the "buzz it" thing in the driver guide and after about a minute of looking it over being absolutly quiet he states that it does not say "a redline a day keeps the carbon away" and I kindly mention to him that it is just an expression and that it does say to push the car to higher rpms. He agrees and asks me if he can make a copy of it to show some other person. +1 for the club!
So after the pwnage he stops acting so arrogant and tells me that they did a throttle body cleaning and he has permission from mazda to order me a new engine if I say the car is still performing poorly in the next week. The way he said it he was almost hinting to me to complain so that I would get a new engine.
So now I am seriously considering getting a new engine because a couple of weeks ago I was driving and suddenly had huge loss off power to the point where the car would hardly move in first with full throttle and at 5000rpms up there was an extremly loud rattling sound. I managed to get the car home and after a few hours cranked it back up with no problems.
So what I think happened(though I'm no expert) is I have a slight loss of compression but not enough for them to replace the engine unless I complain more and mazda feels they have to. Any Ideas?

Here's the scan of the "driver's guide" that came with the 8. It's one of those fold out brochures, so I'm just posting the one that has the 'buzz it', but I scanned the whole thing. All 4 images (front & back of the brochure) are on my photobucket site: http://s140.photobucket.com/albums/r...a%20Documents/
They probably need to be downloaded from there and viewed on a local program to read them well. I'm not sure how photobucket handles larger images, so if they are too small to read even after downloading PM me with an email address and I'll send them as needed.

Its the Duval Mazda in Gainesville. I have heard of the one in Jville but im not sure if they are related. Apparently they are working on(or completed idk) some sort of turbocharged mazdaspeed show car at the one in Jacksonville. Doesnt sound like the same sort of people that I am used to at my dealership.
