Dome Light Rattle

Dome Light Rattle
Hey,
Anyone had a dome light rattle and got it to go away without going to the dealer? I hate to waste hours taking it to the dealer for that but it is driving me nuts. I am pretty sure it is the dome light and not the sunroof as when I push on the dome light button it goes away. I did a search and saw a couple references to dome light rattles but no answers. Any solutions????????

I have discovered I have the same problem. In a posting somebody said this is caused by a wire that connects the dome light which is causing the rattle. I have not found any more informaion about this. Did you every find a solution to fixing this?

I believe there is a TSB to it. Also to add to Zoom44's post, if you do decide to take it apart, make sure you wrap the end of the flat head screwdriver with electrical tape as this will prevent it from scratching the assembly and the headliner.

I just had this same issue fixed about 2 weeks ago at my local dealership. I had the dome light rattle too, but only when the sunroof was open. It was EXTREMELY annoying. Took it to Indian Mound Mazda in Newark, Ohio to have it fixed. They were gracious about it, even after the Service Advisor told me that it took the mechanic a couple of hours to fix it.
As it turns out, he had to disassemble the entire dome light AND the roof lining, A-pillar covers, sunroof assembly, etc. to get it fixed. Poor guy had to put it back together one piece at a time, test-driving after each piece, to nail it down. They fixed it though. Unfortunately he mucked up my roof liner a bit with some dirt, but nothing that a moist cloth didn't get out. Felt bad for the guy having to work so hard to track down a stupid rattle, but I appreciated the hard work.
