You are not willing to:
1. religiously follow the recommended warm-up procedure to avoid a flooded engine.
2. deal with a flooded engine. (It probably will not happen if you do #1, but it could.)
3. check the oil level frequently.
4. redline the engine at least once every time you drive the car.
5. possibly live with “poor” gas mileage. You could get 24 mpg on the road, but you could also get 12 mpg or less, in stop-and-go traffic.
6. read the owner’s manual cover-to-cover and commit to memory the key information.
7. possibly make an occasional trip to the dealer for warranty work and ECU updates.
8. install appropriate tires or park the car for the Winter in the northern climes.
9. put up with the rants on this forum about the “lack of power”, the poor paint, no climate control, and on and on. (But then again, you don’t have to read any of them.)
BUT…if you are willing, you will be rewarded with…
…a super-smooth running engine all the way up to the 9,000 rpm redline.
…superior handling right out of the box.
…great power and acceleration. (It’s not a dragster, but it’s quick.)
…roomy seating for 4 adults--in a sportscar!
…a unique vehicle with attention-getting styling.
…all that at a very reasonable price.

1, 2, 6, and 8 don't apply as far as i'm concerned. I live pretty far north.

#8 is just common sense. Why put inappropriate tires on a car? Heck, why go out in a car when the roads are impassable for the vehicle? It's a sportscar - it needs to be treated as such!

I've had a lot of fun on 'impassable' roads.
w/ DSC/TCS I found my car went pretty good in snow...well, not 'good' - but it managed

Good Job Go48!
I will argue that 1,2,and 6 actually DO APPLY.
They COULD happen at any time so it's good to be prepared for it, just in case...
Mainly it's for our beloved newbies that roam these forums...
Now how do we get the dealerships to post this on the window?

Good thing most of us M/T drivers won't have to worry about carbon build up...9000 rpm is our friend.

I posted it for them when I sent my car for repair. I figured the tow-truck dude would move the car, plus a handful of more or less rotary-aware folks at the dealership/body-shop so I made a sign saying:
ATTENTION: This vehicle has a rotary engine. If you start it you must let it run for at least 5 minutes to prevent flooding. If you shut it off cold it can flood the engine, foul the spark plugs and damage the catalytic convertor. Please take extra care when moving this car.
Thank you,
The owner
I printed that in 42 point font so it filled a sheet of paper and hung two copies - one at the bottom of the drivers window and one on the center console over the radio. I tried to be accurate, concise and not sound like too much of a jerk owner (no need to get them pissed so they spit on my seats).
I wish I could have put some of our awesome smilies on the sign too -

Go48 and Jedi54 - you are both geniuses. I didn't think of putting the Mazda logo on there. That would be killer - make it seem all official. I didn't think of putting spare copies in the glovebox either. That would prevent scrambling to fabricate the threat-signs suddenly if you needed to leave the car for service unexpectedly.
Please - feel free to copy away. I'm flattered you like the idea.
If my short-term memory holds out I'll make and post an MS Word template tomorrow for all to enjoy. Maybe a mod will make it sticky.

Here's my version of the warning. I reworded it a bit. With the addition of the logo, I thought it would look more authoritative if it was not signed, "The owner". Of course, use of the logo without permission is not legal, but who's gonna care?
Note to Mazda: Ignore this thread.
EDIT: Actually, when you think about it, Mazda should include a couple of copies of such a warning sheet in the new-car delivery package.

Did you stall it by accident before it was warmed up?
