Dont look up the Value of your 8!
i just used edmunds.com to take a look at the market value of my 8, and boy i wish i didnt. i bought the car in june of last year and paid 18k from a dealer....a little high for a WWP GT 6spd MT about 40,000 miles.
now my private party retial is at about 13,500 and dealer at 15,000, not even
i know its a bad market, the rotary scares ppl, it doesnt get good gas milage, and bla bla bla but anyone wanna start the discussion of the resale value for our cars?

Mazda dealers can't sell new RX8s and nobody wants to buy RX8s.
Which came first? Does it matter now?
Situation is not unique to RX8 but some cars may be hit worse than others. It would appear that for maybe the next six months car buyers will be much happier than car sellers. Locally you could replace RX8 with any car except Subies in the first line and be correct. Subaru may only be an exception here due to recent bad weather and it's numbers sold are so small it really does not matter.

It would be sweet if those speed 3's were AWD. I would think about it then. I love the interior. Just looked at it quickly at a dealership and thought it was nicer than the 8's interior, but ya, I'm not too interested in a FWD car right now.

Look at any car right now.
Seriously.
The whole 8 depreciation thing is way overdone.
Most cars depreciate at least 50% within TWO YEARS from the time of the original (new) purchase.

I see plenty of G35 coupes that cost over $35k new just a couple years ago going for low $20k range now, and many of those are very low mileage clean cars. And BMW 3-series that cost over $40k new are going for a little more than half that now. So it's not just the 8, most new cars will depreciate pretty hard the first few years.... if you don't want your car to depreciate, go buy a 1995 Civic.

I wouldn't say never buy a new car... it can be a good value if you keep the car a long time, you know it's been properly taken care of since new, you have a full warranty, and maintence costs are very low for a long time. It's just not a very good idea if you plan to sell it 2 years later.
