The sad part was, it was my first car and I just saved up for those rims and expensive Pirelli's for a year....o well life goes on.

Damn, similar stuff happened to me when I lived in Queens. Damn, I thought they might pay for it, but I never knew where to look to try and get it done.
And no matter what my car is, if it has to be towed, it's going on a flat bed.

It's a PIA - you have to call & report the accident, then wait for a cop to show up on scene to document it, then put claims in w/the city (which prlly means showing up at a Claims Committe meeting of some sort) and get the approval. So it's a massive math problem - - - how much will it cost to fix vs. how much BS will it take to get it paid for by the city/town.

Good news!
I heard that the guy who owned this burnt out 8 was the Asian guy with the Fatty GF! His techno was playing too loud and his Fatty GF was in the passenger seat blocking his view to the side view mirror. When making a lane change he hit someone in his blind spot.... wow thats awful. I would punch the tow driver in the face if he ever tried to tow my car from the front. At my grad school they always tow cars for students who park illegally, and they tried towing my car once and i flipped out on them because they only have a pully tow, so now they just put a boot on my car if i park illegally

I filed my claim for 3 of my wheels, but the city ******** declined my request. So I will have to file a law suit against the city. Im gathering more information and will go to a small claim court.
and they're planning to charge toll to go into Manhattan .... 8 bucks each way. get the fuxk outa here. If they can fix up ALL the roads in NYC sure I dont mind to pay 8 bucks each time. but now ? **** them.

(I am no lawyer, but this is what I understand)
You can add all costs associated with your lawsuit to your lawsuit up to the maximum of the court. (For small claims in NYC it's $3,000)
That is why you always make your suite for the maximum allowable amount and just keep a current revision of costs and such to give to the judge.
You can always be given less then the amount you sue for, but you can't be given more. Even if you can prove it's reasonable.
So, you should sue for:
cost of wheel
cost of tires
towing fee if any
work fee
storage fee
cost of rental while vehicle was being fixed
cost of consulting a lawyer
tole / gas costs
i.e. all costs incurred because of the accident.

Depending on where you are coming from there are a few tole free bridges out there. And like I said above add cost of toles to your lawsuit.
59 street is one of them. (What I would use when I would drive into the city.)

AT trans has a pump that forces the trans fluid onto the bearings in the trans, this occurs when the car is actually RUNNING
MT is safer as the fluid fills the trans halfway and is drawn onto the bearings by the movement of the gears , towing with the driveline wheels on the ground is still not recomended for long distances even so

i was just wondering and mayhbe missed something. If the burned out car was towed with the front end up, and the car was in gear, wouldn't it have had the rear wheels locked and then dragging them they woulda blown out first and then caught fire? those rears don't look blown out.
I am sure that i am missing something.

I believe when towing a RWD automatic vehicle you are supposed to keep speeds low (below 35mph) and not exceed 5 miles in distance. I suppose this keeps heat from building up in the AT, and the leftover lube from the last time it ran will suffice for that speed/distance before burning off.
I have towed hundreds of RWD manual cars with a dolly, rear wheels on the ground at 70-85mph and never had any issue. The manual trannies are a gearbath and will lube themselves anytime the driveshaft is spinning.
IF I had to tow an auto RWD vehicle (I have before) I would either use a towdolly backwards (steering wheels on the ground) or a trailer/rollback.
A 4wd vehicle in 2wd mode is just like any other 2wd vehicle. A 4wd vehicle in 4wd mode, or an AWD vehicle like my denali or a subaru, cannot be towed and must be trailered/rollbacked.

Thanks for the advice mate.

I was expecting the lift strap to slip back.
It looked like the "I'll teach her not to park in my spot" tow job..

What about pulling the driveshaft? That is what I have ALWAYS done on any RWD car I toed. It takes about 5-10 minutes to do and then you do not have to worry about what gear it is in, etc. A thick platic bag and a few tight rubber bands and you will not leak much fluid outta the tranny either. And of course common sense says you check/refill the tranny to the proper level.

After watching a friend blowup a Miata engine and trans, I can tell you never tow a RWD any distance at speed.
Any oil bath the shaft is in will quickly be useless if the front is jacked up.
The output shaft in neutral is spinning in bearings and the gearset bushings with no oil splashing around in the case, the bushings will seize to the shaft after awhile.
This will then start rotating the engine when the bushings gall on the shaft.
You can imagine what happened next due to the fact he had drained the oil in the engine because of a blown headgasket.
He was unaware of a problem until the rear tires locked up while on the highway hitched to the U-haul truck.

Odd experience. I have towed literally HUNDREDS of rx7s with a tow dolly (manual trans in neutral) for hundreds of miles at a time (straight through) with no issues at all. Just last week a friend of mine towed an rx7 back from detroit on a tow dolly with no issues. I've towed a few back and forth from atlanta and augusta, towed a couple from cincinnati, towed my FC's turbo swap donor car back from indianapolis. I even had that transmission gone through before installing it into my car and the builder said it was in fine shape.
I think your buddy must have been low on gear oil in his gearbox or something.
