Don't work too long on "L" guys, becuz

M is coming.

Today Mazda rep Rebecca -- nice voice, good attitude -- called back after taking my questions about the L reflash and my early-VIN AT (with lousy mileage but no flooding) to the national tech people. She said they insist that L is not a fix for mileage. BTW, she added, M will be issued soon.

I wasn't alert enough to ask for details about M, but I don't think she had any. It's hard enough to find out what's going on after a fix is issued; Mazda isn't likely to give previews.

For other AT owners, Rebecca did confirm that Mazda issues flashes applicable to our low-power RENESIS as well as the MT model.

Good point it has been stated before that "L" is not a mileage fix, but I think some of it is mentally too. I noticed some people just like the idea their car is up to date. It all depends on the owner, I think. it has been shown through other threads that the "L" has made a difference, but everyhting I have seen from Mazda it does not. I personally have not done the reflash. I talked to my tech he says it wont make a difference and I always rely on him for all ym car concerns. Si if it makes you, the owner, feel better getting it done, and you have a place willing to do it, and you have the time to get it done. I sat why not? It won't hurt anything anyways. IMO

How do get them to flash it. My Dealer seems to want to do as little as possible. Trouble is I'm not really driving too much as the weather is bad.

Fork the gash daan cat, tune the car to the original 250 H.P. enable the DCS and ABS traction systems to shut off completely upon command or eliminate this from reducing timing and if the cat does burn out,the dealer should replace it under warranty, screw the EPA, we already have the cars and we want the mileage and power as advertised!

If you complain about flooding, they should give you the "L" flash.

so if there is no difference why is there a new version? i think the car responds quicker and pulls more. IMO

I am stillconvinced that the better mileage everyone thinks they are getting is not really coming from the L reflash. Most people on here have been stomping on the brakes a bunchof times after they get thecar back to see if the L reflash was properly installed w/the oil sweep check. But asyou all know doing that also resets the PCM. As far as Imconcerned resetting the PCM and making it relearn driving patterns has an effect on the mileage.

Thy pitchfork is up in arms and ready for that triumphant and glorious march toward the evil empire. We shalt not be deceived from prosperity granted us by the sweats of our brow, it is time my friends to rise up and taste victory with the prongs of our tridents and feast on the spoils of our cooked cats. rah, rah, rah. seriously though, at least Mazda is working on a fix, you have to give them credit!

I have my pitchfork sharpened up and ready to poke with, lest I don't receive the definitive flash soon, that will cure my beast's fuel gulping and weak midrange power habits!

Really, I feel THE proper flash should have been performed before I got the car, and I don't understand how it can be reinvented at this point. I'm hoping Mazda will soon fess up about the situation, and have a policy to reflash our cars if asked, without any argument.

Yes, it does have an affect on mileage. It made mine go down.

Even if the "M" reflash comes soon, Im sure I will not find a Mazda dealer in this state to do it anyhow. They have insisted that Mazda has no reflashes for the 8 at this time. LIARS!!!!

Clearly, the L reflash is more than snake oil.

The information in that post stilldoes not disprove what I wrote. Youd need someonewho hasnt done the reflash yet to reset their PCM and see what happens to the mileage afterwards.

I just posted that my mileage has gone down since I stomped the brake 20 times. I have no L flash ... yet.

And you have no proof that what you wrote is true. There is proof that the new map runs leaner, and there is mounting emperical evidence that both mileage and power improve. What Mazda has done with the L reflash appears to be consistent with what Canzoomer and MazdaManiac have done in their quests to improve the car. Perhaps they are all wrong and you are right. It is possible.

Wink "Q" Reflash

I'm waiting for the "Q" reflash. I heard from reliable sources that it increases HP to 450 at the rear wheel, PLUS the car sprouts wings and flies, all with a 50/50 mixture of tap water and 87 octane. Unfortunately this reflash won't be available to the general public, just those owners with Vin #'s that can be divided evenly by the cube root of Pi or a manufacture date prior to June 1, 1987.

Just kidding, of course. I'm going in on Friday for my first service. Hopefully I don't get any resistance. That darn oil light came on for the third time today, also.

call mazda and tell them what your dealer said. then have mazda call your dealer. then watch your dealer change his tune real fast. you'll have the reflash in no time.
