Don't you just love.....
The way people stare at your car like it is some super expensive exotic! Riding down the road people almost break their necks checking out my car, it's great!

Haha... I do indeed. I dropped off a couple of good friends at a theater last night (Les Miserables was playing), and the folks waiting outside to help you out of the car were just gawking over it. Then, I went out to eat and ran into my little bro (he was with his H.S. Basketball team). We all left at the same time, so I ended up having a couple dozen kids drooling over the car. lol. That's why this car is so perfect for me; I'm such an attention *****. :D

Most of the attention I've received so far has been negative. In the form of drivers around me being overly aggressive or just general a-holes. I'm still in break-in some I'm not at all aggressive but have noticed far more people tailgaiting, cutting me off, not yielding at merges, etc., than I have ever experienced in any other car. For reference, I have a '91 Miata and my last car was a SVTFocus.
SUVs and minivans seem particularly hostile.
Random other data point: first tank, 17.25 mpg.

I just took my car to get a oil change at the dealer today, even the sales men was checking out my car. With a few add on stuff the car really looks good, like fender strakes and celar corners.

I park my car in valet parking at O'Hare airport in Chicago. I tip the guy a fin and he almost ALWAYS gives me the rock star spot right in front of the door. Those guys love the car.
If you're ever at O'Hare, mine lives half it's life in the Terminal 3 valet "cage" rockstar spot. Look for the yellow one!

I hear ya brother! I've had the same experiences. It's called jealousy. :D

i caused a mini to hit his car in front of him when i first got the car in july of 03 .
Rx8’s were very rare then .
The guy had a puzzled look on his face when he was looking at the car and didn't notice the car in front of him . I tried to warn him but he didn't understand why i kept pointing in front of him .

I passed a man and a lady...older...in a geo metro. The speed limit was 50, I was accelerating through 45 passed them up to 55. They must have been doing 35. Out of nowhere I received the finger. I just smiled, must have been jealousy:-)

I noticed the same thing right after I got mine. Oh ya and at 10k miles I am getting the same MPG as you are now.

Yes...I agree, it's cool seeing people gawk at our lovely 8!!! The best ones I like is not what you might expect (young people) I love how old timers just stare at it like if they said to themselves:
"I've just seen the best looking, SUPER SEXY, car ever made...I'm ready to die now"
LOL

I looked into the rearview mirror to see a couple discussing my car. The woman pointed and I could see her mouth "what's that?"
Then he started explaining the rotary, either that or he had some form of turettes (sp?) where his arm goes in circles really fast. I get lots of positive stuff about the car. A buddy of mine says, "that car gets better every time I see it" almost every time I see him. :D

Today I turned out of a parking lot and proceeded to bring it up to 3k RPM as fast as I could, which makes quite a distinctive growl...right past two young ladies walking down the sidewalk, who immediately gawked at the car and said "holy sh*t!"...and totally kept right on turning around to stare at the car. :D
Truth be told though, for every person that looks at the car, there's another 10 that just absolutely don't care a whit about it. I would say my car hasn't been attracting the share of attention I was originally expecting it to...and there's not that many 8's in my town. No cops deliberately trying to trap me, no chicks walking up to me just because of my car...not even ricers trying to race me.

In the summer I would get people every single day pulling up next to me at lights telling me how awesome my car was. Most of the time it was older guys giving me the thumbs up or telling me they used to have rx7s as fast as they could before the light changed. Others it was annoying little boys saying something little boys say to girls then peeling out in their clunker ricers. Once, I pulled out of a Dunkin Donuts parking lot, and a guy almost hit some pedestrians because he looked back and pointed and shouted to his wife "That's an RX7!!"

The RX8 is one of the most unconventional designs on the road today -- if not THE most unconventional. To wit: rotary engine, the "freestyle" doors, the four seats, the dynamic, dramatic exterior styling...
Everywhere I go, people want to look closer and longer at it. Some have been positively giddy at how well the freestyle doors work -- they stand there mesmerized -- opening and closing, opening and closing, and opening and closing... come to think of it, I think I remember doing that when I first tested out the RX8!
Some thoughts adapted from my post to "How did you first find your RX8" thread:
The RX8 really appeals to my sense of design, both aesthetically and functionally. It's got to be the most optimized, integrated stem-to-stern automotive design I've ever personally encountered. It's an affordable exotic for the masses (in a relative sense -- average 2005 car price is around $28K). People routinely assume it's much more expensive, especially due to the unconventional design.
I think my wife, Sandi, says it best: "It's got the highest "kewl factor" of any vehicle on the road." Not surprisingly, I couldn't agree more.

A couple weeks ago I was on my way home from work and was getting on the freeway. The onramp turns into an exit only lane so I have to get over right away. There was a mid 90's civic coming up fast so I waited to get over and he slows right next to me and starts honking the horn. I look over to see an older gentlemen in his 50's or so yelling out his window "what is that?" as we're doing 65 on the freeway. I yelled back "RX EIGHT!", punched it and was on my way.
I don't get too much attention around stuck up So Cal but every now and then I do.
Another time I was parked at the local shopping center going to Gamestop and on my way out to the car a guy and kid were drooling over the car. Guy's peeking in the windows and what not. He then proceeds to hop into his 500SL Mercedes. Made me feel good.
