For an R3, yes.
But he doesn't like them, so he's gonna get new ones and give those to me. *Cough*
Now, when you get confident enough, try doing so a little more at pace, but in an environment where you won't wreck the car.
Oh, and fyi.. A lot of people are going to say they really don't care, because most people don't, haha. Just throwing it out there.

My choice of shoes for driving...
I wear TOMS(I know, kinda GAY) shoes for better feel and the Nike Air Zoom Moire, which is a wide-toe fit and has a wide heel surface, makes it so easy to do heel-toe/rev-match.

Not racing shoes or anything, but I've got a pair of Saucony Courageous that I've had for a few years. I'm pretty sure even when they were new though, they were almost like socks, for the amount of feel I had in them, I just don't like rocking them all day long, haha. I got a new pair of Ken Block's DC shoes for that...
ANYWAY.

The DC shoes, I can't actually feel the pedals, with those, I can feel the edges, the texture, everything through them, so I like them for that.

Once you get the hang of it the particular shoe does not matter.
But by all means get some cool looking shoes. When I'm not wearing shiny shoes for work, I wear Simpson Crew Shoes. Soft and comfy. Black with a tasteful "Simpson" tag just to the side of the laces. Cheap, too. About $40 a pair.
Don't have trouble heel-toeing with either kind of shoe.

I wear moccasins... (don't hate )
they are very flexible and i can really feel the pedal through my shoe. However, I suck at the heel toe method but I prefer left foot braking anyways.
