That's just a Doug Demuro trademark at this point LOL.

Personally I think it's less of his voice and more of how he talks if that makes sense. The way he punctuates his sentences feel a bit weird and forced.

overall I'd say that's a pretty fair assessment for a 15 year old car.
Just wish he could have gotten his hands on a nicer / newer version, possibly a Series II.

and to whoever loaned him the car, you couldn't freaking clean your car a little bit more?

The circles thing never registered, don't really care.
The long wheelbase and length between the wheels thing, was it really to get the back seats in like he said?
That to me would mean the handling aspect was a happy accident.
I don't think so, he even mentions how well it handles without thinking about how the wheelbase affected the placement of the engine, low and further back giving it the low center of gravity and weight distribution.

Corvettes are kinda known for having pretty good gas mileage for its power, at least the base/Stingray models.

Corvette makes a load of torque down low. IIRC the LS3 and its successor, LT1 are both well capable of 300 lbft of torque at 1000 RPM. LS1 and LS2 wouldn't be too bad, either. This means you can fit some stupidly tall gears on it for cruising to save gas. Engines without much torque have to have more aggressive gearing to make up for it, which will make them rev higher on highways, and you will get worse gas mileage as a result.

On top of that, manual Corvette(and V8 Camaro) have a feature called Computer-Aided Gear Shift(CAGS). If you are accelerating from a stop and you aren't driving the car hard, you will upshift from 1st and then the shifter will force you to slide into 4th. Yep, you can lightly accelerate these cars below 20 MPH in 4th gear. This kinda helped GM "cheat" their gas mileage on the manual models, and they also made it really easy to bypass. You can get an eliminator for like US$20.

Oh, and the newer ones(C7 and up) have Active Fuel Management which is GM's way of saying cylinder deactivation, which helps the gas mileage further.

His views on the styling are nothing new, nor clever, just an opinion.

In my view he missed the whole point by never going above three thousand r.p.m. on his test drive.

Contrast that with Mr. Clarkson's review - showing the beeper at 9000 rev, whilst wearing the silliest grin on his face!

I honestly think his assessment is overall pretty fair for the car. He addressed that his view on the car's exterior is in the minority so there is that. Didn't take the whole Doug Score thing that seriously, though, seeing it's hard to judge the interior, etc. of a car from more than 10 years ago in modern day standards.

I'd prefer him giving a fair assessment and nitpicking rather than a blind praise, which then cause some idiots to buy them, have them break down and the RX-8 gets some bad reputation again.

I don't think he pointed it out as a negative. It's a quirk and/or feature. It's not, say, door gaps that are so big you can fit a tube of toothpaste in them.

I thought I would comment on the visor as this was discussed many years ago. Most ppl will not appreciate this design like Mr. deMuro. Unlike basic sold visors that is either all light or no light the tiny holes enable diffused light to come through depending on the angle of the visor. This also allows one to be able to look at the overhead traffic light without fiddling with the visors.

I am appreciative of Mazda with the rotary design motif as opposed to ///M stickers everywhere.... on non-M cars.

I have to admit I thought the same as he when I saw the sun visor, however after using it, it worked just as well as the regular visor s.

Yes, I have used the visor this way when the sun is behind a stoplight. Much better than trying to block the sun with your hand.

I actually have to agree with Doug on that one and I said the exact same thing before to others. It's just bizarre that my 1999 Corolla 5-speed didn't have this issue since it has the pop-out cup holder in front of the shifter and that was an econobox where 99% of the people will pick the automatic trans, while the RX-8 is designed with a manual trans as a primary choice and they somehow didn't realize that people will hit their elbows on the cup when shifting.

Granted, it's not an RX-8-only problem, but it's a valid point. I don't consider it a huge problem, though. Some older German performance cars(namely Porsche and BMW) don't even give you cupholders.

I don't remember ever using my cupholder in the RX-8. I don't drink or eat in my car, so don't care about something as meaningless as this.
The way this clown talks and the whole manner how he presents his thoughts and opinion just irks me.

The no eating part is pretty reasonable in a car I care about like an RX-8. I am more lenient about it in a beater.

But the drinking part... Sugary drinks are a no-no, but tea and water are pretty reasonable, especially in summer when it's important to stay hydrated.

Anyway, it's not a deal-breaker, more just a minor annoyance. If no one's riding with me I just toss the bottle in the passenger seat.
