its ok to rev anytime as with the clutch depressed if in gear and without if in neutral. you guys really need to have a physical image in your brain how transmission and clutch work.

the Mazda rep was bullshitting.
the OMP is controlled to lubricate the seals depending on RPM and Load. its lubricating all the time otherwise your engine gonna seize.

yeah i imagined clutch engaging the engine transmission like a record player on or off. i assumed as long as the clutch isn't coming into contact with the engine transmission it would be ok to rev. I just wanted to make sure. better safe than sorry!

Smells like BS.

Sounds like some confusion on carbon emission. To eject carbon you need to rev under load, not while in neutral at a stop light. Obviously this has nothing to do with lubricating seals, more BS and lack of understanding. I think this rep conflated carbon emission issues with seal lubrication, and knew nothing about either.

Practice makes perfect my friend - every manual car I've driven has to be 're-learned' -- where the bite point is for the clutch, how long the engine takes to rev up from either a blip or a full on stomp, the sweet spot for down shifting... It's purely a learning experience. When I focus, I can downshift as if it was an automatic. I find the trickiest transition though, is a higher gear down to third. I really push down on the throttle for a good while longer than other gears to get a perfect rev match.

When I started learning manual, I found that downshifting was smoother when I made a habit of double clutching. It gave me time to decipher how much throttle is needed for certain gears at certain speeds.

The best tip to learn your shift points is to have the radio turned off and DO NOT look at the tachometer or the speedometer. Listen to your engine and pay attention to your speed. My friend's father participates in SCCA races and he would tell me that instructors put tape over the tachometer for forcing students to learn shift points by sound and predictions of their speed.

Now double clutching has become a second habit for me. I am able to double clutch downshift as fast as most people do their single clutch downshifts. I dont have to use my synchros either. Every downshift is at the perfect RPM and the shifter pops right into gear with a great feel. All I have to do now is master double clutch heal & toe:
