Drafting to increase MPG... works. 24mpg steady.

Bummed, but bring on OU!
Drafting often and keeping the speed to 70-75mph got me 360 on a tank once. Just over 26mpg if I remember right (normally I'm at 80, and get 23-24). It's a 450 mile trip though, and I'd rather get there half and hour sooner. Sometimes I miss the old Volvo on the highway. 31mpg and an 18gal tank (with 300hp to boot). I could make the trip without stopping and still have a quarter tank left. Comfortable too. The mountains back home make it all worthwhile though.

I experimented with drafting once on my motorcycle. Pulling in behind a semi, there's a point maybe 3-4 car lengths back where the turbulence is furious, getting wind blasts from every direction at once. But pull a little closer and the wind drops to almost nothing. I was able to relax my throttle to maybe half of what it had been.
Problem is, as someone mentioned, there are old hunks of truck tire lying in the road. If a truck passes over one, you'll never see it coming. That's much worse on a motorcycle than in a nice safe car.
